5 Minute Freewrite: Friday Prompt - Manicure

Lizzy has been married to Boris for roughly six years now. They have been living happily all those years but there is a particular thing missing in the marriage.... children. At some nights Lizzy will wake up in the middle of the night crying. Boris, acting like a responsible and caring husband will rise up and sit beside her; showering some words of encouragement on her just to calm her down.

Meanwhile, their sixth wedding anniversary was around the corner. Boris told his wife Lizzy that he will take her out and possibly spend some days away from home with her in a holiday resort. To that effect he gave Lizzy some money to go and make her hair and for manicure too so as to look ravishing for the intending outing.

Lizzy decided to visit a nearby nail salon for the manicure. By the time she got there, there were about three other ladies there having their nails worked on. She had to wait for her either of them to finish before she will be attended to.

As she was seated there and patiently waiting for her turn, the ladies where gossiping about different people. She simply refused to be drawn into their discussions or gossip. After a while, their discuss was centred on a certain man and his wife who had been married for six years without an issue. Lizzy was stunned. I hope they are not referring to her, she muttered to herself. She didn't want to betray her surprise. She kept her cool and became all ears.

One of the ladies then told the others that the said man now has a child outside wedlock without the knowledge of the wife. The lady even mentioned the name of the young girl that had the child for the said man who according to her is her cousin. She even had to describe the said man in details to the other ladies. She rounded off her gossip by telling her friends that the said man is making arrangements to marry her said cousin. Lizzy was stunned and transfixed to her seat. All the detailed descriptions including the type of car owned and all that points to Boris.

This has explained the cold attitude of her husband Boris whenever she raises the issue of childlessness in their marriage. So Boris has an alternative plan, she queries herself. She does not know whether to start crying thereat or confront the woman gossiper for more details or even leave the nail salon immediately. She felt terribly bitter. She gathered some courage and left the nail salon for home abandoning the course that took her there in the first place.
