Larry Is Alive #066 I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and welcome to Saturday, the peak of the weekend. Larry the postman as usual, and before commencing his routine job for the today, decides to take a look at today in #history. And here we go:

Gentlemen, do you know that on this date in 1862, President Abraham Lincoln of the United States signed the Homestead Act, which gave 160 acres of public land to people who had lived on and farmed the land for at least five years essentially free of charge.

Do you also know that on this day in 2002, East Timor, island country in the eastern Lesser Sunda Islands, at the southern extreme of the Malay became independent. Happy independence to them.

Also, on this day in 1902, Cuba gained its independence from the United States, which had taken possession of the island in 1899 after winning the Spanish-American War against Spain.

Furthermore, on this day 1882, prior to Italy's entry into World War I, Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy secretly established the Triple Alliance, an alliance based on a treaty that offered mutual defense against attacks by other European nations.

Finally, on this day in 1806, John Stuart Mill
British philosopher, economist and exponent of utilitarianism was born in London, England.
