Larry Is Alive #151 September 25, 2023: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone. Welcome to my hunt for Larry the postman for today, the 25th day of the month of September 2023. Gentlemen, Larry had a lovely 🌹 day yesterday and woke up safe and sound today. He prays for a clement weather today to enable him deliver the huge dispatches he has today. But before Larry commences his deliveries for the day, he turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Kenya. He finds out that on this day in 2011, Wangari Maathai, a Kenyan politician and environmental activist who was the first Black African woman to win a Nobel Prize (the 2004 Nobel Prize for Peace), died in Nairobi, Kenya at the age of 71.

From Kenya, Larry moves over to the middle east. He finds out that on this day in 1970, hostilities ended in Black September, a brief but devastating civil war between the Palestine Liberation Organization and Jordan.

From the middle east, Larry moves over to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 1777, during the American Revolution, British forces captured Philadelphia, which was at that time the American capital.

From the USA, Larry moves over to the world of movies and entertainment. He finds out that on this day in 1968, Will Smith, American actor and musician whose charisma and quick wit aided him in making the transition from rap music to a successful acting career was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A

From the world of movies and entertainment, Larry moves over to France. He finds out that on this day in 1991, Klaus Barbie, a Nazi official who led the Gestapo [Nazi secret police] in Lyon from 1942 to 1944 and was held responsible for the deaths of 4,000 people and the deportation of 7,500 more, died in Lyon, France.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from the USA. He finds out that on this day in 2003, Franco Modigliani, Italian-born American economist and educator who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1985 for his work on household savings and financial market dynamics died in Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
