Larry Is Alive #189 November 16, 2023: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Thursday, the 16th day of November, 2023. It is the international break in the world of football. Most national teams are engaged in prosecuting world cup matches. Nigeria faced Lesotho today at the Uyo stadium wherein they were held to a (1-1) draw in the FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. Larry had expected an outright win from the Super Eagles but they were held to a one all draw. After the match, Larry turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Pakistan. He finds out that on this day in 1988, Benazir Bhutto was elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, becoming the first woman in modern history to lead a Muslim country. She served as Prime Minister from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996.

From Pakistan, Larry goes to the USA. He finds out that on this day in 2006, Milton Friedman, an American economist who was a key proponent of monetarism and received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1976, died at the age of 94 in San Francisco, California, USA.

From the USA, Larry goes to the world of exploration. He finds out that on this day in 1885, David Livingstone, a British explorer was the first European to view Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya). Victoria Falls is a magnificent waterfall that is situated at the boundary between Zimbabwe and Zambia to the south, around halfway down the Zambezi River.

From the world of exploration, Larry goes to Nigeria. He finds out that on this day in 1930, Nigerian novelist Chinua Achebe who is well-known for his realistic portrayals of the psychological and social disorientation that results from imposing Western norms and values on traditional African society was born in Ogidi, Anambra State, Nigeria.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today from Nigeria. He finds out that on this day in 1904, Nnamdi Azikiwe, the first president of independent Nigeria (1963–66) and prominent nationalist figure was born in Zungeru, Nigeria.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
