Larry Is Alive #229 January 02, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for Monday the 2nd day of January, 2024. This is my second Larry hunt for the year. In the EPL match played yesterday, Liverpool overcame Newcastle United at Anfield.l by (4-2). That win saw Liverpool climb to the summit of the EPL table. Tonight, WestHam United plays host to Brighton. The match is already into it's 23rd minutes. They are still playing (0-0). Larry veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Spain. He finds out that on this day in 1492, Granada, home of the Alhambra palace and the last stronghold of the Moorish kingdom in Spain, surrendered to the Catholic Monarchs, Ferdinand II and Isabella I, effectively ending the Reconquest.

From Spain, Larry goes to space exploration. He finds out that on this day in 2004, NASA's Stardust probe gathered dust grains from the comet Wild 2, and the cometary material was later discovered to contain the amino acid glycine, an important building ingredient of life.

From space exploration, Larry goes to the United States of America. He finds out that on this day in 1967, Ronald Reagan, an American Republican politician who formerly worked as an actor, was sworn in as Governor of California.

From the United States of America, Larry goes to Japan. He finds out that on this day in 1905, during the Russo-Japanese War, the Russians handed over Port Arthur (later Lüshun, China) to the Japanese.

From Japan, Larry goes to England. He finds out that on this day in 1917, Sir Edward Burnett Tylor, an English anthropologist who is often regarded as the father of cultural anthropology, died in Wellington, Somerset, England.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from Somalia. He finds out that on this day in 1995, Mohamed Siad Barre, President of Somalia from October 1969, when he launched a bloodless military coup against the elected government, to January 1991, when he was deposed in a violent civil war, died in Lagos, Nigeria.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
