Larry Is Alive #235 January 09, 2024: I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone and warm welcome to my Larry hunt for tuesday the 9th day of January, 2024. Manchester United won against Wigan Athletic (0-2) last night in the final game of the 2023-24 FA Cup third round. And with the conclusion of those games, the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg was staged tonight and it was between Middlesbrough against Chelsea. Surprisingly, Boro won (1-0) on a night nobody gave them a chance to beat the premier league team, Chelsea. But they did it afterall. The second leg comes up at Stamford Bridge in a fortnight. Let's see who makes it to the final at the end of the day.

Larry veers off to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from the Middle East. He finds out that on this day in 2005, Mahmoud Abbas, a Fatah founder who briefly served as Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority (PA) under Yāsir ʿArafāt in 2003, was elected President of the PA.

From the Middle East, Larry goes to the world of technology. He finds out that on this day in 2001, Apple released iTunes, a digital media player application that, along with the subsequent release of the iPod the following year, revolutionised digital music.

From the world of technology, Larry goes to England. He finds out that on this day in 1982, Catherine Middleton, who married Prince William in 2011 and became the duchess of Cambridge, was born in Reading, Berkshire, England.

From England, Larry goes to Egypt. He finds out that on this day in 1960, construction began on the Aswan High Dam in Egypt, and when it was completed in 1970 it generated enormous amounts of electric power and allowed for the control of the annual Nile flood.

From Egypt, Larry goes to France. He finds out that on this day in 1908, Simone de Beauvoir, a French writer and feminist who gave a literary interpretation to existentialism's principles, was born in Paris.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in #history from France. He finds out that during this month in 1839, Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre of France announced the invention of the daguerreotype, the first commercially successful form of photography.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry zooms off to begin his daily deliveries.
