How to be updated about people's post without following them

We all know Hive is not a writing station but it is a social media platform. The success here doesn't depend merely on the quality of your content. Instead, the quality and strength of our relationship with the members of the platform matters the most. We add value to other people's content by reading and interacting with them in the comment section. In return we gain visibility on the platform, new connections are build, our followership is likely to increase, the readership for our own blog increases, and of course author rewards are also likely to be increased.

The path is simple (I am not saying Easy 🤪). We visit people's post. We like their content and want to build our connection with them. We click the follow button. Now whenever they publish a post, it appears in our following feed. This way, we keep informed about their latest publication and can interact to strengthen our bond.

The story is just fine till here, but when the number of our following increases there are more posts in our feed and posts from some of our most favorite authors (whom we don't want to miss) bury under the piles of the newly published posts of some other authors. Not only this but our following feed also include the reblogged posts; and some of our followings are a way too much into reblogging. Consequently, we miss the posts of those whom we don't want to miss.

For keeping the track of our favorite authors is to mark them favorite and get their posts in the favorite feed. I have used Peakd and Ecency front-end. Ecency sends notification whenever a favorite author publishes a post, while peakd provides a separate feed for favorite authors.

So far as favorite authors are concerned, now it's easy to be aware of their publication by marking them favorite. Nevertheless, we don't always want to keep the track of an author because of being favourite. Sometimes, we have some other reasons. Such as following a community account for being updated about new contest, keeping an eye on someone we onboarded, supporting newbies etc. etc. At times, we just want to track people for a short time without given them a follow.

For such a thing peakd provides an amazing feature that helps us updated about people's posts without even following them or putting them in favorite list. The option is named as LIST. By using this option, we can categorise people into different groups, and see the posts of all in one single feed.

Here is the method of how to create a list and people into it.

Go to the person's profile page and click the box with three dots. A drop down menu will open. Click the option Add/Remove from Lists.

A dialogue box will appear.

Write the name of the list you want to create. Then click the Add button.

A new list will appear

Click the small box against the list you want to put the account in.

The list is created and the account is added to it. Now, how will you access the list.

Click the three lined icon on the top left of your profile page.

A drop down menu will appear. Click the option List. Another menu with the names of the lists will open.

Click the name of the list. The posts of people in the list will appear in the feed.

This way you can create many lists and add people to it. When you want to remove someone from the list, you can do it by the same option with which you had added them i.e. Add/Remove from Lists

Oh my... I was wondering what these other options like "Favorites Feed" are for but never really got a chance to check. Now I know. Thank you so much for this. I'm gonna organize my lists now. ✨

I have been on Hive for a long time and I never took my time to check out this feature and I am just getting to know of it tonight. This is interesting and I appreciate your time guiding everyone.

Oooooh, sister! I really like Ecency but you have given me another reason to consider switching to Peakd 🤔😉😎

Hmmm, I shall think about this... Thanks for teaching is something really helpful!

(BTW, there's a word in English I'd really like to teach you. Can I share it with you? Are you happy to receive a correction on your post or would you prefer me to just ignore tiny mistakes since I can tell what you're trying to say?)

switching to Peakd

I use both the front ends for different reasons.

Are you happy to receive a correction on your post or would you prefer me to just ignore tiny mistakes since I can tell what you're trying to say?

I always welcome the correction of even the tiniest mistake. This is the way I can improve.

Please, never ask me before the correction but let me know about the mistakes whenever you find any. I will be thankful for this.

You know, I struggle with words at times going back and forth to dictionary. If somebody would teach me without putting this much effort, I would be elated ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Peakd - got it! Makes sense.

Corrections - good! I always like to check. So many people hate being corrected even if it's going to help them. Thank you for being so clear. I'll just sneak in tiny English lessons when I see things pop up in your posts 🙌

Today's lesson: You used the word "tract" but what it looks like you meant was "track". For example:

For keeping the tract of our favorite authors is to mark them favorite and get their posts in the favorite feed

Keeping "track" of something means keeping an eye on things, measuring them, or in this case, following them.

"Tract" is a word I rarely use. (I only know it as part of the digestive system/body). Here's the definition I found:

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/tract

You definitely want the work "track" in this instance and will probably rarely find use for the word "tract" in your posts.

For the record, I think your English is awesome. I cannot write a post of any length in any other language than English so I think you're doing amazingly well 🙌🙌🙌

In other news, I'm up to Day 6/30 for HiveBloPoMo (still have to write today's post, but I'm on here to write it). How are you going?

You are absolutely right. I will make the edits.

Thanks for the appreciation and encouragement 🥰

Oh boy.... I am out. Couldn't post anything on Sunday and Monday. I had very busy days. Also I was out of network. Moreover, with posting everyday, it became difficult for me to give comments and replies. Hehe. I will still try to post as much as I can but not everyday. Engagement is important too.

Thanks for your time and guide.

God bless you !LADY

God bless you too, sweetheart. I hear you, that it's hard to keep up with replying to comments and engaging with people AND write new content. I don't have children so I'm sure I would struggle to keep up with a post every day if I did.

You mentioned you were out of network area for a couple of days. Do I remember correctly that you're in Pakistan? If yes, are there big areas with no internet or did you just happen to go into the mountains or a wilderness area?

Yup, I am from Pakistan. You remembered right 🙂. I was at my home. There was some problem in the cable of our connection

some of our most favorite authors (whom we don't want to miss) bury under the piles of the newly published posts of some other authors.

Many interesting posts are getting overlooked/missed this way. Sometimes I also notice good and interesting, but often undervalued posts after the post payout. There are many authors, and because of this, getting visibility is often a big challenge.

That's true. We come across undervalued post after their pay out is done. In that case, I go to the person's latest post and give my vote to it.

Very useful 🙏

I'm a mad reblogger :) I just like to share and help people get more exposure (hopefully)

But I also miss so many of my favorites because of reblogs, time etc

I've been going to my connections feed and trying to stay abreast of new posts there

This'll save tons of time and effort 👍

Hehe. I have seen you reblogging 🤪...

While we have very good intentions about reblogging, there are some drawbacks we should consider. So many reblogs mess up our own blog. Secondly, when we see someone in reblogging habit we simply overlook their reblogs .

I hope the list feature of peakd will help you

Ah okay

More knowledge for a noob!

I will, henceforth, restrain my reblogging

If possible! 😁

I think it's also a remnant from Fakebook. Common practice to reshare stuff.

I don't care so much about my blog tbh. I go to users posts page as habit to see only their stuff.

And my blog is for connecting people... I hope!

But if they're gonna be missed and it works the opposite way on Hive, I need to rethink that so thanks for the info 👍

And a favourites list is super convenient. Love this

🙏

Posts on facebook are smaller in size as compared to blogs on Hive. Reposting doesn't work here the way it does on FB.

But if they're gonna be missed and it works the opposite way on Hive, I need to rethink

Yes, you certainly need to rethink. Reblogging too much is like spamming other people's feed, isn't it? It might cause annoyance to those who follow you.
