It was a wild goose chase ...

On 6th September, my elder son had a performance at school for which he had to dress in military. His principal had asked me about a week ago if we could arrange the dress by then. I replied in positive that we would surely buy one before the day.

It is very difficult for me to go to market except Sundays. (Yes, I go to Friday and Saturday Markets easily as I have told in several of my Market Friday posts but in those temporary markets everything isn’t available). The bigger permanent markets are farther from my residence and I am not used to of getting out alone for that farther places. That’s why I do go with my husband.

On working days, my husband returns home so late that all the markets are closed. In these circumstances I have no day other than Sunday to go for shopping. Though Sunday is a holiday yet some markets of the city are opened. My plan was to visit the markets in the afternoon, however, my Sunday started with migraine that got intense by afternoon. This way my head created a hindrance in completion of my plan. 😠

Any ways, in the evening we set out for our hunt. I had heard of a shop in a particular market where the costumes were available. That market partially opens on Sunday. I had thought that we would go there and would easily get what we needed. Unfortunately, the market was closed that day 😕.

My brother-in-law advised us to go to a super market which is known for its ready-made garments. We went there but to our dismay the dress wasn’t available there either. My husband told if there was need of some other things we could buy. I thought of buying pants for my kiddos but I looked at the time and decided to do it some other day. Because it was Sunday, the markets would close earlier and we still hadn’t found what we had been searching. The other market we decided to visit was quite far so it was wise to leave for it as early as possible .

We quickly drove to it. As we entered the market, I felt relieved because I saw military trousers hanging in a shop. I thought our hunt was over but it was merely a false hope. When we asked the shop keeper if he had the dress or trousers for a 9-years-old boy, he replied in negative (He merely had trousers and that were for adults 😳). The shop keeper told us that we were the 15th customer asking for the dress that day, and that no shop in the market had the one 🙄. He told us that we could get it at the school uniform shop. (May God bless him for his suggestion 🙏).

We thought for a while what we should do. The uniform shop was just near the super market we visited before 🤣, so it was far from us at that moment. I asked my husband to check some other shops in the market, we might get the required dress. We went looking into some shops but our eyes couldn’t see what they were looking for. Finally, we asked a shop-keeper if he had the dress. He told the name of a market where we could find it. Seriously.....!!! The market is at the other end of the city, about at the drive of one and a half hour 😲. And even if we reached there it is not opened on Sundays 🤯.

In these circumstances, we decided to visit a uniform shop. Would it be on that time of the Sunday?? We didn’t know. We drove quickly to the market. Out of 3 uniform shops there, only one was opened (Thank God!). We went in and asked if they had what we needed. The reply was positive. I felt pacified, but it was short lived. The shop-keeper had went inner side of the shop. When he came back, he told us that all of them are sold 🤢. However, the good news was that the new orders were getting ready and would be available the next day.

So many Ifs surrounded me. What if their orders didn’t get ready by the next day? What if my husband reached late? What if all of their dresses are sold again? We didn’t have much time for any further delay. There was only one day left for the performance day. It was on Tuesday.

Though we had told the shopkeeper to keep a dress for us, yet the risk of missing it was still there. That’s why we decided to visit another uniform shop. It was quite farther from that place, but we did go there. It was opened. We asked to them if they had a soldier costume. Their reply, “Yes, we have but we have the costume of Army not that of Commandos.” Alas! We needed that of commando.

What we could do! This hunt was like a wild goose chase. We came back home empty-handed with a hope that we would find our required thing from the shop where we booked it.

The next day, my husband came back home a little earlier and in his hand was a bag. Yaaaaay! The wild goose was caught. I mean we got the thing for which we had run this much. The dress cost us 1500 PKR. I think it was a high price yet we had no other option. Hehe.

Look at my son, wearing the dress. He has been so happy about it and so we are.

I was literally going around the city with you as I read. It would have been terrible if in the end, you didn't find it. I am glad you did. It looks perfect on your cute boy.

Oh my! He looks like an army service chief already.😀. Honestly, while reading through your posts I was already feeling sorry for us because you had to check out different places. I would not like that either. Infact, I may have given up sooner..😅

I am sure your son appreciates them!🙌

What a perfect fit! Always the running around for the uniforms, even here! I always use the uniform shops as they always carry anything you might need for a school or academy.

I am so glad it worked well for you. You do know you can take your pictures on Sunday for the following Friday, yes? Or just accumulate the shots for when you post one

Thank you for supporting #MarketFriday! It has always been interesting to walk through a post and get a view of another part of our world. I have read all of the posts, many twice, and it is always a pleasure. Unfortunately, I had something unexpected this week, taking me out of town, so I didn't get to post my personal comment to you. My apologies and it is not a habit as I know everyone works hard to put together great posts. I had wonderful posts this week! I hope that you take the time to go around and check a few out. It makes a better community when the interaction is genuine! Thank you! It helps me out when I am not the only comment on a post. :)

Thank you so much! It is very appreciated!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

I had no idea that I would find the outfit on the uniform shop, but now I know and would go straight there if ever I need it again.

I hope everything you were involved in last week yielded the best result for you.

Have a nice day

But so guapo too. :) (handsome)
I hope he smiled afterwards.

God only knows the lengths we parents go to for our children, to the end of the earth, if need be.
LOL
I hope you have a great weekend.
