A Second Chance.

I am someone who loves to support my friends the best way I can, especially if they are entrepreneurs. I love to patronize my friends more than a random person.

I and Donald, with whom I had been friends since our university days, were having a random chat the day we decided to visit the tourist centre when he told me he was into 3D animations, T-shirts, nylon customization, and logo creation. I was very happy because for a while I had been looking for someone who would make my fashion brand a customised nylon to deliver the client's order.

I flipped my hair to the back while I asked him, "How do you charge? I would love to patronize you." With such a beautiful smile, he was so excited he would have the honour of making my brand nylon customization and T-shirt for me and my girls.

"Since I know you, I won't charge you so much since we are colleagues 8,000 for 12 units each including the print." It was quite expensive to me because I had initially asked a random person who also specializes in customization but then I decided to patronize him anyway, "Aren't you going to give me a discount?" I tried to persuade him if he could reduce the price for me: "I didn't charge you at all; I will give you a very good job; have no worries." I decided to just give him a trial, and so we closed the deal. He told me the day the nylons and shirts would be delivered, and I was looking forward to it.

Donald told me I was going to receive the goods by the end of a fortnight, and it's been over three weeks yet there are no signs of the goods approaching anytime soon. I decided to put a call across to him. "Hey Donald, what's popping? When am I receiving the goods? It's over a fortnight now."

"Oh, I'm sorry you get it by next week; there was a little delay in printing," he replied, ending the call with a chuckle.

At this point, I wasn't feeling happy about how everything was going, but then I decided to keep my cool, hoping that by the end of the week, my goods would arrive. At the end of the week, my goods didn't arrive, and everything I tried to reach Donald's number wouldn't go through.

I started to regret patronizing him. After another two weeks, my home rang and it was a random number calling, so I picked up and kept quiet for a moment. "Hello...Hello," a male's voice resounded from the speaker. "It's me, Amie, you'll get your goods today; it's on the way. I am very sorry for the delay." Donald was the last person I expected to call me, but then I was glad he finally reached out. "Oh, okay, I'll be expecting it," I reluctantly responded.

A few hours later, the goods arrived, and the worst of all happened: the nylon and the T-shirt were made of inferior quality, the colour looked faded, and the print on it wasn't what I was expecting.

I was so disappointed, and then I called him to tell him how bad his services were. First, he delayed the goods; now they were of poor quality, and that was the last time I patronized him. He kept making excuses as to why everything happened the way it did and that he would make it up for me the next time I patronized him. "Who will patronize you again?" I whispered under my breath.

Last year, I wanted to make another T-shirt as a gift for a friend, so I posted it online, asking for a referral. Then Donald reached out to me and said he would do it, but I was reluctant to give him a second chance. After much thought, I decided to give him a second chance since what happened the last time was now water under the bridge, and thankfully he gave me the best, and I was happy we made up for the last time.

I think it's great you support your friends' businesses and what you did for Donald was kind, even if his first effort was disapointing.

There were some things in this post which made it hard to understand such as,

I Donald, with whom I had been friends since our university days,

Becuase of the 'I' at the start of the sentence, I thought you were Donald for a moment!

Great post overall.

Oh, that was a mistake, I skipped the conjunction which I have added now, thank you.

Apparently it was a difficult situation that you experienced with your friend. I remembered a similar situation with a friend of my sister, It seems to me that sometimes friendship gives certain advantages for some friends to take advantage of. Luckily You resolved your differences and were able to remain friends.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us.
Good day.

I was reluctant to give him a second chance, but then I thought we all needed a second chance or a benefit of the doubt.

And truly, doing business with friends often goes wrong which is why I am super careful now, thanks for coming around.

This made me wonder if the first time you gave Donald a job, he was only apprentice. He may never have told you so but maybe he was practicing the trade and your wares were some of his trials. Sad what happened with your goods but good that he performed better.
Thanks to you who gave him the benefit of the doubt to prove so.

It's good that you gave him a second chance and he did his best. Forgiveness is everything.

Sometimes, working with friends often hit roadblocks. With Donald, we saw that happened and I bet everyone of us have experience such a thing before.

I am glad you gave him a second chance to prove himself. I have a good feeling he had been praying fervently for a chance to do right by you and the universe gave him the opportunity to do so.

He probably was still a leaner the first time he got the job, and just used your services to learn work, I guess he is perfect now, just like some tailors, they first damage so many dresses before perfection.

It was generous of you to give Donald a second chance. You lost so much on his first effort. It is often said that one should not do business with friends and family, and yet most of us turn to friends and family when we need something to be done.

You describe the challenge well. We understand your motivation and frustration. You also set the scene well in several instances.

Thank you for sharing this with us, @amiegeoffrey.

This has really become an issue over the past years.
You support your friend and then they do anything for you because they are familiar with you.
You were kind to have even given him a second chance

It's so sad when friends take advantage of us, but sometimes we just need to give them the benefit of the doubt, to see if they can right their wrong. Thanks for visiting.

I think it was very good you gave the second chance. Not so much for David specifically, but for the many business connections you make in future who might not make a great first impression for whatever reason. Overall it will be better for your peace of mind for sure.

Cheers from a fellow #dreemerforlife

True, I think I did it for peace of mind and of course, these could bring in more connections, I was glad when he did better than the last time.

That was noble of you to give him another chance. In all honesty, I don't think I would have, especially with how you described the disappointment you felt. But I'm glad it worked out for you in the end and the friendship wasn't lost. Big ups to you and Donald!
