Empowerment: A Step To Financial Freedom and Self-Sufficiency.

Have you noticed that most of the rich people get married to the rich to maintain their financial status and look for ways to multiply their wealth? I said most because not all of them do.

Most wealthy people find ways to invest in businesses and they have more than one stream of income.

Have you also noticed that most poor people often shy away from anything termed "money begets money?".The person with a poor mindset finds it hard to spend money to get more money, they hardly invest and they just want to enjoy their little savings with the mindset of "if we perish, we perish," or "we only live once, enjoy your life,".

While it's not a bad thing to spend on yourself or enjoy the reward of your labour, it is also important to make plans for a better tomorrow and to invest.

As a young child, I learned the advantage of empowerment courtesy of my beloved mother, I watched how my mom and dad jointly took good care of us, sent us to a good school, took us out every weekend to nice places, and ensured we wore the best clothes and they had businesses even though they were civil servants.

As much as many people back then thought, that going to a university was enough to have a good life, my mom believed that we all need to have handiwork to keep us financially stable, from a very tender age, they bought different instruments which could be of use to us, in our family, one of my siblings is caterer, the other a beautician, and so on until it got to my turn I finally choose to be a fashion designer despite my university education and my first sewing machine was a gift from my beloved parent and I treasure it more than the ones I got with my own money.

From that one sewing machine, I have made a lot of money to equip my office and even own more than one sewing machine.

I won't deny the fact that I worked with my university certificate but the truth is, I am now living on my skill, I have made countless outfits for so many clients and I have earned a lot through my handiwork.

The best empowerment a family could give their members is not by giving them fish but by teaching them how to fish, either by supporting them to learn a trade, seeing them through school, or another kind of support.

As I grow older, I have noticed that even the government have seen the power of empowering people both young and old as most summers, they are making provisions for anyone who cares to be empowered, and they invite people to learn soap-making, bead-making, painting, makeup artistry, sewing, hairdressing and any form of empowerment you can think of.

This has helped to reduce the high rate of unemployment as many people can earn with their handiwork and in turn empower other people.

Sadly, there's a popular adage in my country that says "This life no balance, person wey get cap no get head, the one wey get head no get cap," which means that some people have a great family who are willing to support them so that they can be empowered but they are not interested, simply because their family is very wealthy, some just want to depend on the wealth of their parent, but one thing my patent taught us is never to depend on their wealth, their wealth is just a bonus, but we must learn to work for ourselves and save for our children too.

While some are willing to be empowered they do not have a support system, that's just how life is.

From a tender age I have learned that there is dignity in labour and owing your property, I have learned the act of industriousness through my parents' example and I do not think I want to depend on anyone or whatever inheritance I might have and nothing makes me feel powerful than knowing that I am capable of taking care of my bills without waiting for anyone, I can take myself on treats without looking up to someone and I am financially independent at this point in my life and that I can even support my family and friends with the little I have😌.

I believe financial stability comes with a crucial decision, followed up by discipline and contentment, that yours is better no matter how little it is than what the other person owns, and I have been looking for ways to invest so that I can be more financial stable cause there's so much insult that comes with depending on another man's table to dine and there's this self-confidence that comes with self-sufficiency, nothing in the world beats that good feeling.

That's really a good empowerment by your parents and it's great to see that you are holding on to this skill so dearly for your good and the good of your future children. Indeed our government top understand the importance of empowerment and from time to time, they advertise the offer for interested people
Building family wealth through empowerment is really a good thing not only beneficial to the current generation but also the future generations to come

@amiegeoffrey this post is 10 days old so our votes will not count as you must have already got payout:(.

The one thing that stops people like me who are in the salary trap and have only seen salaried people is that investing in something has risk. I have seen my father lose money in trying to buy a flat in the days when real estate has too much black money. So that fear stops many like us on putting in the money to make more. Having said that I do agree that learning some skills and leveraging them is absolutely necessary and being dependent on someone who can fire you at a moment’s notice is a risk in itself. I normally advise youngsters to multi task their work and not get stuck to salary alone.

Cheers from a fellow @dreemerforlife

Your parents did a great job and I totally agree with you. This is very true, acquiring a skill or two will always help you out somehow in the future. We never know where we would find ourselves in the next couple of years.
