Acarรญciame, no me abofetees
Esto de las โcariciasโ a travรฉs del Anรกlisis Transaccional es curioso, pues, hace aรฑos habรญa leรญdo al respecto y aplicado cotidianamente.
Es asรญ de simple.

Si dices โยกQuรฉ bien lo has hecho!

Caress me, don't slap me
This whole "strokes" thing in Transactional Analysis is interesting, because I'd read about it years ago and even used it in my daily life. For those unfamiliar with the topic, we're not just talking about a hug; it's basically anything that makes you feel seen. A "good morning," a look that says "I understand," or even a sour face, like the gentle caress of the "evil eye," haha. All of that is a "stroke." It's how we tell each other we "exist." Although sometimes, those strokes turn into slaps.
That's what life is, isn't it? A constant give and take. That's where we're shaped. So the big question is: What am I looking for most? What kind of recognition do I receive most often? Like the virtual caresses our friend @damarysvibra bestows upon us with her Acarรญciame initiative in her role as a Columnist for the #Holos&Lotus Community. Well, let's honor the open invitation to everyone.
In my case, I've seen it firsthand: if I speak respectfully, clearly, and yes, kindly, things work; people respond in kind. It's that simple. If I give trust, I receive trust. Call it "positive affection" or whatever you like, but it's a two-way street.
This stems from my own experience, of course. I've always leaned towards the positive, towards encouraging people. And I almost always receive the same in return. That's no small thing. It's the foundation of how I live. I'm largely responsible for creating the environment I'm in. Everyone does, consciously or unconsciously.

Eric Berne, who started all this, spoke of the "hunger for recognition," because we need to be seen. In fact, he said it's better to receive a dirty look than to be invisible. That gives you an idea of โโhow much we need that recognition, even if it hurts.
The other question is the difficult one: What about me? Am I aware of the impact I have on others? And why do I do it? Ugh. This is where honesty with oneself comes in. I hope to read honesty in the posts of those I'm speaking with.
My personality has a historical explanation. I was involved in the Catholic Church until I was thirty, working side by side with them. Naturally, that whole message of love for one's neighbor, of patienceโฆ stayed with me. The commandment โLove your neighborโ (Matthew 22:39) and the idea that โlove is patientโ (1 Corinthians 13:4) were my school of thought. It's natural that my way of โgiving affectionโ is like that, even though today I tend to be more atheist.
In the end, it's โyou reap what you sowโโit's a clichรฉ, but it's the absolute truth. If you go through life giving encouragement and respect, that's what comes back to you. If you go around sowing criticism or indifferenceโฆ well, you know what you're going to reap. There's not much mystery to it, and I'm sure you've experienced it.
Being aware of this is a daily practice. It's about stopping to think: Does what I'm about to say help or hurt? Is my silence because I'm listening or because I don't care? That's the path to understanding yourself better and having healthier relationships.
Think of it this way: the things you say are the notes you leave in the air. If you say, โYou did a great job!โ, โI trust you,โ or โThank you for your effort,โ the โmusicโ of your life sounds good. If you go around saying, โYou never do anything rightโ or โI donโt care about you,โ the atmosphere becomes toxic, youโre just slapping people around, and donโt expect to receive kisses in return.
And this isnโt just about being a good person. Itโsโฆ intelligent selfishness, if you will. By giving good things, I feel better. I reinforce my own idea that Iโm a generous person, not because I lacked โpositive affectionโ in my childhood or youth. Viktor Frankl said that we can always change. And that freedom includes choosing what we give and what we receive.
In the end, itโs about taking the reins. Stop reacting automatically and start building consciously. When you understand the power of this kindness, you donโt just improve your relationships. You live a better life, period.
Well, I have no choice but to take advantage of this opportunity and invite my friends @josegilberto and @beaescribe. I would like to hear their views on this broad and never-ending topic.
