Today is Thursday and, as they say, your body just knows it. Itâs that day of the week when nostalgia finds a place in our routine, allowing us to travel through pixels. Iâm delighted to accept the invitation from my friend @lanzjoseg to take part in his brilliant initiative âTBT: A photo, a storyâ because remembering isnât just about reliving the past, but also about honouring the roots that keep us grounded, no matter how far weâve flown.
In the shade of the white wing
There are moments in adolescence that stick in the memory, not because of the scale of the event, but because of the intensity of the energy surrounding them. A typical Thursday at the shopping centre might seem like just another routine outing, but at fourteen or fifteen, a day out with friends carries all the drama and excitement of a legendary expedition.
âThat day,â Gilda tells me, âthe air in the corridor smelled of a mixture of sweet, cinnamon-scented perfumes, freshly made popcorn and that cool, unmistakable scent of air conditioning in large shops.â There were seven of us, seven girls straddling the fine line between childhood and adolescence; that moment in life when every glance is a secret code, and every burst of laughter echoes as if we were the undisputed queens of the place.

As they reached the entrance to the Nike shop, something seemed to make time stand still. Above them was not just a commercial logo illuminated on the wall; that enormous white Swoosh glowed in the dim light like a huge protective wing, a universal symbol of movement, speed and urban attitude with which they all, in some way, wanted to identify. It was the perfect setting, without a doubt. Without a momentâs hesitation, they aligned their expectations and posed in front of the camera to capture the moment.
From left to right, their camaraderie was plain to see. Andreina broke the initial formation with her relaxed posture, flashing that fresh, natural smile that always radiates calm. Beside her, the others linked arms and waists in a chain of stifled laughter and last-minute adjustments. At the centre of the group, making her mark with a blend of confidence and nonchalance, stood Liudy Corina, unmistakable in her tilted white hat, reflecting the bright light from the wall, and striking a pose full of attitude for the camera. To her right, my niece Gilda â an accomplice in this post for providing me with the photograph and telling me the story â; the rest of the gang rounded off the picture amidst tight hugs, baggy jeans and trainers that already told tales of long walks.
It was a snapshot of a golden age, as they are all women nowâsome with children and others forging their futures at university. The Nike logo remained at the top as a silent witness to that fleeting sense of freedom, but what really brought the image to life was that unique spark of being fifteen, having your best friends by your side and feeling as though the whole world belonged to them.
If you want to take part, I think youâre still in time â youâve got until 11.59 pm TODAY, THURSDAY, so hurry up and remember to obey the rules.
