Battle Mage Secrets - Equal Opportunity

avatar

Greetings Summoners! Welcome to Battle Mage Secrets. The Battle Mage Secrets is a challenge where every week players must test their strategic skills in battle for specific rules. This week the specific rule is "Equal Opportunity":

  • All units gain the opportunity ability which allows them to attack the unit with the lowest health on the enemy team.

This battle was played in a Splinterlands tournament where only the Chaos Legion and Rebellion editions were allowed to play. It was in the "Beginners Training Tournament by @Kryprogamers". This tournament has a novice format so only level 1 cards can be used. Let's see the rules, the team and the details of the battle.

Battle Rules & Strategy

This is a 46 mana battle with 3 battle rules (Briar Patch, Equal Opportunity and Back to Basics). All elements except Fire, Earth and Death are allowed to play.

IconNameDescription
Briar PatchAll units receive the Thorns ability at the start of the battle. Enemy units that use melee attacks receive damage back.
Equal OpportunityAll units gain the opportunity ability which allows them to attack the unit with the lowest health on the enemy team.
Back to BasicsUnits lose all abilities.

Strategy & Tips

  • The ruleset places importance on Magic and Ranged attacks.

  • Do not use monsters for their abilities. Remember that monsters lose all their abilities due to the battle rule "Back to Basics".

  • All monsters have thorns (Briar Patch) so don't use melee attack monsters.

  • The summoner effects are still active.

  • Our strategy will be to use a magic damage composition. Does magic damage is very important. Monsters with magic attack may do damage from any row, since this form of attack ignores the defender’s Armor STAT (damage is applied directly to health).

  • Monsters with high HP are important.

My Lineup

Franz Ruffmane has served as the commander of the Prideheart Valiants for many years and is an intrepid and powerful leonine with a natural ability to lead others and a charismatic personality that inspires them to follow. His silver and gold armor is endowed with potent life magic that protects both him and his allies, and like all Prideheart Valiants, he carries a two-handed warhammer passed down through the ranks as warriors retire or fall in battle. As is tradition, he has memorized the names of his weapon’s previous bearers and the battles in which they fought. Never has a Grand Prior been harmed under the watch of the Prideheart Valiants, and Commander Ruffmane has sworn to maintain this legacy. He and his fellow silverback leonines are fiercely loyal and will never leave their post. When the Grand Seneschal left Khymeria to travel to Praetoria, the Grand Prior sent Franz Ruffmane and one hundred Prideheart Valiants as an escort to protect his second in command. “I swear that I will faithfully, loyally, and honorably serve the Grand Prior and his legitimate successors, and I will dedicate myself to them with all my strength, sacrificing, if necessary, my life to defend them. I assume this same commitment with regard to the Grand Seneschal whenever the Grand Prior's seat is vacant. Furthermore, I promise my superiors respect, fidelity, and obedience. I swear to observe all that the honor of my position demands of me.” —Franz Ruffmane, swearing his oath of allegiance to the Prideheart Valiant

Franz Ruffmane: I really like this summoner as it gives +1 Armor to all friendly monsters and the possibility to use an additional Gladiator card in battle.

Time Meddler: Good magic card that can be used as a tank due to its HP and Armor.

Djinn Renova: Another incredible magic attack card with high HP.

Magi of Chaos: I really like this card because it is Neutral so we can use it with all elements.

Harbinger of Chaos: Very complete card with a good combination of magic attack and HP. Even if its mana cost is high, it's a perfect card for high mana battles.

Time Mage: This card is incredibly fast. The high speed is very important as it allows us to attack first.

Captain Katie: Powerful Gladius magic attack card. It fits very well with our magic attack team.

The Battle

This was a great battle. My opponent played very well and with a very similar strategy. He is a very good player! I am happy with my victory and the strategy I used. I have won 150 DEC + 200 DEC in Kryptogamers Lightning Wallet for finishing 3rd in this tournament.

Personally I like the Equal Opportunity rule, but we have to be careful and use balanced compositions so as not to be easily countered by our opponent. In this particular battle was a bit more complicated because we also had to take into account the battle rules Briar Patch and Back to Basics.
