Lo que se está viviendo en este mundial ya en instancias de octavos de final es pura crema futbolística, partidos de infarto y sentimientos de esperanza. Ayer se diputaron los primeros cuatro partidos de los octavos de final y tengo mucho por opinar y desglosar en este post.

Lo de Brasil fue de esos partidos que te hacen sufrir hasta el último segundo. Las brasileñas empataron 1-1 con Estados Unidos y tuvieron que irse hasta los penales para buscar el boleto a cuartos. Ahí apareció la arquera Thaís Lima, que terminó siendo protagonista y ayudó a Brasil a ganar la tanda 5-4. No fue la presentación dominante que al menos yo esperaba después de ver a Brasil en una fase de grupos perfecta, pero en octavos lo importante era sobrevivir… y Brasil sobrevivió. Ahora está entre las ocho mejores y sigue con vida.

Y aquí es donde incluyo el término “Sentimientos de esperanza” Del otro lado está Argentina, ese sabor amargo. La Albiceleste venía de una fase de grupos bastante llamativa, después de remontar contra México y clasificarse como segunda, pero en octavos se encontró con una Corea del Sur muy ordenada tal cual como lo mencione en el post de día martes y terminó cayendo 1-0. Una lástima porque Argentina había demostrado carácter para meterse en esta instancia y, después de lo vivido en el grupo, uno esperaba quizás un poco más en este partido. Pero así son los Mundiales: un mal día y te toca hacer las maletas.

Mirando el panorama sudamericano, Brasil queda ahora prácticamente como la gran bandera del continente en esta primera tanda de octavos, aunque todavía falta Colombia contra Polonia que incluso al momento de que leas este post puede estar jugando o haya terminado el partido. Lo que más me deja esta jornada es que Brasil sigue demostrando que sabe competir incluso cuando las cosas no salen como uno espera, mientras Argentina se queda con la sensación de que pudo llegar un poco más lejos. Ahora toca mirar hacia Colombia, porque si la Tricolor consigue superar a Polonia, Sudamérica tendría dos representantes entre las ocho mejores.
