Inheritance is a stupid idea

Transferring wealth during life makes more sense. Adult children rarely need help in their 50s to 70s

They benefit more from support in their 20s to 40s for paying down debt, buying homes, raising kids, and starting businesses

Kids are 28, 31, and 34
Parent is sitting on $3.2M and plans to leave it all at death
The question posed: what will they need money for at 58, 61, and 64?
Mortgages will be paid. Kids will be grown. Retirement accounts funded

Right now:
One is drowning in student loans
One can't afford a house in this market
One is planning a wedding on a shoestring budget
$50K today changes their lives. $50K at 60? It's a rounding error

$30K is being given to each this year to watch how it's used
Die with memories, not money

Who said that adult children rarely need help in their 50s to 70s?

I am in my 50s, I need all the help I can get to live comfortably for the rest of my life. If I have an inheritance, it will make a great difference.

Fair point, everyone's situation is different. I was thinking more about kids who are already set in their careers by then, but yeah, life throws curveballs and not everyone has it easy.
