Hello everyone for some time now disney channel has given us incredible series some for children and others suitable for all publishes among this the owl house a popular series and quite criticized for having a LGBT character of protagonist, although this series has a children's context touches quite serious issues and you can appreciate the evolution of the characters, without more to say let's start:
Hola a todos desde hace tiempo disney channel nos ha regalado increíbles series algunas infantiles y otras aptas para todo publico entre esta The Owl house una serie popular y bastante criticada por tener un personaje LGBT de protagonista, si bien esta serie tiene un contexto infantil toca temas bastante serios y se puede apreciar la evolución de los personajes, sin mas que decir comencemos:
General analysis:
Created by Dana Terrence, it managed to mix fantasy and children's horror to give something never explored before, although comedy is the order of the day the old formula in which the main character has a problem and at the end of the episode she solves it and learns a lesson changes completely although Luz is a character with many flaws she stays the same during most of the series learning from her mistakes and growing little by little although she constantly gets into trouble and it is always her friends who end up helping her. she constantly gets into trouble and it is always her friends who end up helping her, she manages to change and/or help them all thanks to her particular way of being. There is also Eda, a very complex character who at first did not open up to anyone, but when Luz comes into her life, she begins to lower her defenses and starts to consider her as a daughter. This series is the first of disney in which a main character is LGBT something never seen before although the acceptance of the fans is high there are many against so the series will not have much future like many disney series addresses discrimination in a creative way but still there are many factors that prevent this series to prosper.
Creada por Dana Terrence, logro mesclar fantasía y horror infantil para dar algo nunca explorado, si bien la comedia esta a la orden del día la formula antigua en la que el personaje principal tiene un problema y al final del episodio lo soluciona y aprende una lección cambia totalmente si bien Luz es un personaje con muchos defectos ella se mantiene igual durante gran parte de la serie aprendiendo de sus errores y creciendo poco a poco aunque constantemente se mete en problemas y siempre son sus amigos los que terminan ayudándola ella logra cambiar y/o ayudar a estos todo gracias a su particular forma de ser también esta Eda un personaje bastante complejo que al principio no se abría ante nadie pero cuando llega Luz a su vida comienza a bajar sus defensas llegando a considerarla una hija. Esta serie es la primera de disney en el que un personaje principal es LGBT algo nunca antes visto si bien la aceptación de los fans es alta hay muchos en contra por lo que la serie no tendrá mucho futuro al igual que muchas series de disney aborda la discriminación de una forma creativa pero aun así son muchos los factores que impiden que esta serie prospere.
Character Analysis:
- Luz Noceda: She is the main character of the series and the only human of all the boiling islands, she is a very positive girl and full of imagination so much that she usually scares everyone around her for being very strange, that's why she is sent to a camp to deal with her excess of creativity but before leaving she goes through a portal to another world although she was a fan of magic and fantasy the boiling islands are not at all as she expected because the place was more scary and crazy than she had imagined but after causing a rebellion and befriending Eda and King she decides to stay to learn to be a witch like Eda, Humans can't do magic but she improvised so that by taking advantage of the already existing magic of the islands she could cast spells using glyphs although she is a kind and loving person many can use this against her as she is not able to detect evil intentions until very late making her very naive. A characteristic feature of her is that she is quite impulsive being one of the people who jump into danger without any plan as is the case of her decision to be a witch because although it is something she wants with all her heart she does not think beyond this therefore when she is questioned about her future she panics and does not know what to say, she usually helps others even without their consent causing all kinds of problems and madness in the process. She is of American-Dominican descent.
Luz Noceda: Es el personaje principal de la serie y la única humana de todas las islas hirvientes, es una chica muy positiva y llena de imaginación tanto que suele espantar a todos a su alrededor por ser muy extraña por esto es enviada a un campamento para lidiar con su exceso de creatividad pero antes de irse atraviesa un portal hacia otro mundo aunque ella era fanática de la magia y la fantasía las islas hirvientes no son para nada como ella esperaba pues el lugar era mas aterrador y loco de lo que hubiera imaginado pero después de causar una rebelión y hacerse amigo de Eda y king decide quedarse para aprender a ser una bruja como Eda, los humanos no pueden hacer magia pero ella improviso de manera que aprovechando la magia ya existente de las islas pudiera realizar hechizos utilizando glifos si bien es una persona amable y cariñosa muchos pueden utilizar esto en su contra ya que no es capaz de detectar las malas intenciones hasta muy tarde haciéndola muy ingenua. Un rasgo característico de ella es que es bastante impulsiva siendo de las personas que saltan al peligro sin ningún plan como es el caso de su decisión de ser bruja pues aunque es algo que desea con todo su corazón no piensa mas allá de esto por consiguiente cuando le interrogan por su futuro esta entra en pánico y no sabe que decir, suele ayudar a los demás aun sin su consentimiento causando todo tipo de problemas y locura en el proceso. Es de ascendencia america-dominicana.
- Edalyn "Eda" Clawthorne: She is Luz's mentor as well as her surrogate mother, nicknamed under the alias of "Owl Lady", she is a swindler and rebel considered the most powerful witch of the boiling islands, when she was a child she was cursed adopting the form of a fierce owl creature every so often to counteract it she has to take elixirs that help her to stop the curse, Although at the beginning she behaves irresponsibly and crazy with Luz with time she starts to become very over-protective with her creating a mother-daughter bond, due to her difficult childhood because of the curse it is hard for her to open up to people but thanks to Luz she could improve her relationship with her sister Lilith, King and even her mother becoming more open to her emotions.
Edalyn "Eda" Clawthorne: Es la mentora de Luz así como también su madre sustituta, apodada bajo el alias de "Dama búho", es una estafadora y rebelde considerada la bruja mas poderosa de la islas hervientes, cuando era niña fue maldecida adoptando la forma de una feroz criatura búho cada cierto tiempo para contrarrestarlo tiene que tomar elixires que la ayudan a frenar dicha maldición, si bien al principio se comporta de manera irresponsable y alocada con Luz con el tiempo comienza a volverse muy sobre-protectora con ella creando así un vinculo de madre e hija, debido a su infancia difícil por la maldición le cuesta abrirse a las personas pero gracias a Luz pudo mejorar su relación con su hermana Lilith, King e inclusive su madre volviéndose mas abierta a sus emociones.
- King Clawthorne: He is the king of the demons "King" or that is what he claims to be, although Eda treats him as her pet and Luz as a tender animal both love him so much that they decide to follow his game of being King to make him happy, he is as irresponsible as Eda and just as unruly both quickly become attached to Luz and when she introduces him to her friends he feels jealous, both protect each other and support each other but sometimes King can be quite selfish and self-centered although it doesn't take him long to come to his senses. He was found by Eda when he was a puppy on an unknown island, he had no memory except that of a fantasy that she decided to feed him to avoid making him suffer. Later on, he allows Eda to adopt him in order to carry his surname.
King Clawthorne: Es el rey de los demonios "King" o eso es lo que dice ser, si bien Eda lo trata como su mascota y Luz como un animal tierno ambas lo quieren mucho tanto que deciden seguir su juego de ser Rey para hacerlo feliz, es tan irresponsable como Eda e igual de revoltoso ambos se encariñan rápidamente con Luz y cuando esta le presenta a su amigos siente celos, ambos se protegen el uno a otro y se apoyan mutuamente pero a veces King puede ser bastante egoísta y egocéntrico aunque no tarda en recapacitar. Fue encontrado por Eda cuando era un cachorro en una isla desconocida, no poseía ningún recuerdo excepto el de una fantasía que esta decidió alimentar para evitar hacerlo sufrir. Mas adelante permite que Eda lo adopte para así llevar su apellido.
- Augustus "Gus" Porter: He is a friend of Luz and an illusionist, he has a great admiration for the human world so much that he is amazed by the simplest things of this, he possesses illusory magic so he can project his image and different illusions at will, being an illusory magician he is usually despised by other witches because he cannot fight but this limitation only serves to increase his creativity.
Augustus "Gus" Porter: Es amigo de Luz y un ilusionista, tiene una gran admiración por el mundo humano tanto que se asombra por las cosas mas simples de este, posee magia ilusoria por lo que puede proyectar su imagen y distintas ilusiones a voluntad al ser un mago ilusorio suele ser despreciado por otras brujas debido a que no puede combatir pero esto limitación solo sirve para aumentar su creatividad.
- Willow Park: She is a friend of Luz and a student of the plant class, nicknamed the "almost witch Willow" due to her inability to perform magic properly spent most of her childhood in the shadows because of this but when she meets Luz she is transferred from class and begins to gain confidence. She is a very powerful witch and also very wise as she is the voice of reason of the group, she is usually kind and loving to Luz always caring for her friends. She was Amity's friend until she decided to end their friendship due to the imposition of her parents. She has two parents who although they love her very much are very strict with her academic performance.
Willow Park: Es amiga de luz y una estudiante de la clase de plantas, apodada la "casi bruja Willow" debido a su incapacidad para realizar magia correctamente paso la mayor parte de su infancia en las sombras debido a esto pero al conocer a Luz ella es transferida de clase y empieza a ganar confianza. Es una bruja muy poderosa y también muy sabia ya que es la voz de la razón del grupo, suele ser amable y cariñosa con Luz siempre preocupándose por su amigos. Fue amiga de Amity hasta que ella decidió terminar su amistad debido a la imposición de sus padres. Tiene dos padres quienes aunque la quieren mucho son muy estrictos con su rendimiento académico.
- Amity Blight: She is Luz's girlfriend and a student of the abominable class, she is presented as the typical bullying and conceited girl but as the series progresses she befriends Luz and begins to see her with different eyes, although it is obvious that she felt something for her, she refused to accept it and because Luz was very dense she could not notice her feelings. Due to her parents' strict upbringing Amity was rarely able to be herself and had to act according to their expectations, it wasn't until she met Luz that she was able to break free and start making her own decisions. Although she has a tough facade, she is kind and sweet as Luz is also a fan like her of the stories of the good witch Azura. She is the character with the most evolution as it is remarkable her change as the series progressed.
Amity Blight: Es la novia de Luz y una estudiante de la clase de abominables, es presentada como la típica chica bravucona y engreída pero conforme avanzaba la serie se hace amiga de Luz y comienza a verla con otros ojos si bien es obvio que ella sentía algo por ella esta se negaba a aceptarlo y debido a que Luz era muy densa no lograba notar sus sentimientos. Debido a la estricta crianza de sus padres Amity rara vez podía ser ella misma teniendo que actuar de acuerdo a las expectativas de estos no es hasta que conoce a Luz que ella pudo liberarse y comenzar a tomar sus propias decisiones. Aunque tiene una fachada dura, es amable y dulce como Luz también es fanática al igual que ella de las historias de la buena bruja Azura. Es el personaje con mas evolución pues es notable su cambio a medida avanzaba la serie.
- Lilith Clawthorne: She is Eda's older sister and one of the most important members of the emperor's coven, she is always trying to get her sister to join the emperor's coven because Belos promised to cure her curse if she joined it, she is a skilled witch like Eda has a serious and cold attitude but does not hesitate to be immature like her sister unlike her sister she is better at academics being more intelligent and versed in history than her. Previously she had orange hair but she dyed it black to intimidate.
Lilith Clawthorne: Es la hermana mayor de Eda y uno de los miembros mas importantes del aquelarre del emperador, siempre esta intentando que su hermana se una al aquelarre del emperador debido a que Belos prometió curar su maldición si se unía a este, es una diestra bruja al igual que Eda tiene una actitud seria y fría pero no duda en ser inmadura como su hermana a diferencia de esta se le da mejor lo académico siendo mas inteligente y versada en historia que ella. Anteriormente poseía el cabello naranja pero se lo tiño de negro para intimidar.
- Hunter "The Golden Guard": He is Belos' main guard and the teenage prodigy of the emperor's coven, he is very arrogant and at the same time rude to others, he blindly follows Belos' orders even though Belos clearly uses everything due to the fact that just like Luz he can't use magic being an outcast in the boiling islands because of this it was the emperor who saw something in him so he gave him a staff with artificial magic and a purpose so he will do whatever it takes to please him , He has an aberration for wild magic because of Belos but thanks to Luz this was softened a little, he also has a great need to be useful to the emperor as he sees him as a father, he is very curious about magic like Luz and deep down he is a good person but he is very confused.
Hunter "El Guardia Dorado": Es el guardia principal del emperador Belos y el adolescente prodigio del aquelarre del emperador, es muy arrogante y a la vez grosero con los demás, sigue ciegamente las ordenes de este a pesar de que claramente lo utiliza todo debido a que al igual que Luz no puede utilizar magia siendo un marginado en las islas hirvientes fue el emperador quien vio algo en el así que le dio un bastón con magia artificial y un propósito por lo que hará lo que sea por complacerlo, tiene una aberración por la magia salvaje debido a Belos pero gracias a Luz esta se suavizo un poco también posee una gran necesidad de ser útil para el emperador ya que lo ve como un padre, siente mucha curiosidad por la magia al igual que Luz y en el fondo es buena persona pero esta muy confundido.
- Emperor Belos: Main antagonist of the series, not much is known about this peculiar character only that he claims to be the only one who can hear the wishes of the Titan, he has an immense hatred for wild magic and needs to consume palismans to survive which leaves in doubt if he is really a sorcerer, he wants to unite the human world with the boiling islands to control the wild magic. He has a ruthless and manipulative attitude but when things don't go according to his plans he suffers from sudden outbursts of anger that even frighten Hunter, his main guard.
Emperador Belos: Principal antagonista de la serie, no se sabe mucho sobre este peculiar personaje solo que dice ser el único que puede escuchar los deseos del Titan, posee un inmenso odio por la magia salvaje y necesita consumir palismanes para sobrevivir lo cual deja en duda si es realmente un brujo, quiere unir al mundo humano con las islas hirvientes para así controlar la magia salvaje. Tiene una actitud despiadada y manipuladora pero cuando las cosas no van de acuerdo a sus planes sufre de repentinos arrebatos de ira que incluso asustan a Hunter su guardia principal.
Conclusion:
With inspiring messages and a very interesting plot it is obvious that we will have guaranteed fun with this series and although Luz's path to become a witch is quite long with the help of her friends she can not only save the boiling islands but also her own world plus who knows maybe she can be the bridge that unites both worlds but I'm getting ahead of myself a lot we will have to see how this story ends that for sure will leave us all with our mouths open, do not forget to leave your comment, tell me what you think of Luz and which is your favorite character, until next time.
