[TV] The Handmaid's Tale (2017) A story that addresses the oppression of women/with spoilers[Eng-Spn]
Hey Hive and #scrobblelife folks, I'm watching a fantastic series that's really caught my attention. It's called The Handmaid's Tale. While researching it, I also learned that this series is based on a dystopian novel by Margaret Atwood, published in 1985 and adapted into a film (1990) and the well-known TV series, which is the one I'm currently watching and it's very exciting.

The first episode starts off a bit confusing. We see June, her husband, and daughter running from several men who were chasing them; We don't know why they're doing this, but we realize they're only after June and her daughter. Knowing this, June's husband stays behind to distract the men while they try to escape. They don't succeed because they're eventually captured, and when June resists, a man hits her on the head with his gun, knocking her unconscious. When she wakes up, we realize that June is no longer called that; she's now Offred, the protagonist and narrator. From June's perspective, we experience the isolation and loss of her former life, as she becomes the narrator of her own story. This situation leads me to believe that her name means she is now the property of her "master" (Defred means "of Fred," that is, "belonging to Fred"). A coup d'état led to the overthrow of the United States government, and all women became part of this system, which I find highly arbitrary.

The world was divided between Masters, Wives, and Handmaids. The latter wear red and are assigned to Commanders to be subjected to systematic rape in order to bear children. The Wives, women of the ruling elite dressed in blue/teal, are infertile and cannot have children. There are also the Marthas, women in charge of domestic chores, who wear green/gray, and finally the Aunts, responsible for indoctrination and control of the system, who wear brown.

Stripped of all rights, the protagonist, Offred, meets another Handmaid who shares her contempt for this situation, and together they harbor this secret of repressed hatred. The chapter culminates with a heartbreaking event in the city: A public punishment for breaking the strict laws of Gilead. The accused, a man who raped a handmaid outside the established norm, is beaten to death by the group of handmaids. This shocking and intriguing ending leaves you with a huge desire to continue the story. But I've decided to tell you about it chapter by chapter.
I hope you enjoyed my story, and I'll see you soon with the review of chapter 2. Bye, guys.

Chao chicos.

I haven't seen it, but this review made me want to. I hope my wife doesn't want to break free after all the oppression, hehehehe. Greetings @angeluxx, good review!
This is the first time I've heard of this series. If I understand correctly, the series addresses profound themes such as oppression, loss of freedom, state control, gender discrimination, and human resistance in the face of an authoritarian regime. I'd say this is more or less what we're experiencing in Europe today. Economic growth is completely under control, and the majority of people are prevented from growing economically, heavily burdened by taxes and increasingly declining healthcare. However, The Handmaid's Tale seems like much more than a simple television series. This series seems like a narrative that invites reflection on the dangers of authoritarianism and the importance of defending fundamental rights and freedoms.
Greetings friend, I loved your comment for sure @angeluxx sabra apreciarlo

Thank you so much for reading my post and leaving such a thoughtful and beautiful comment, I love it. You have to watch this series, it's fantastic, I highly recommend it.
I found this post through snaps, and I can say that it was triggering to read through the events that occurred in the first chapter of the show. The emotional torture, stripping women of their autonomy, indoctrinating them into a terrible system. That is slavery; of the mind and body.
This writing also makes my heart sad for the modern day oppression that exists in similar forms. Now, I wonder... will women ever be fully free?
I guess I'll have to watch out. Thanks, by the way! Finally added to my watch list.
Thank you for your lovely comment, you have to watch the series, it's great.

So I think it will be more interesting to read the novel first than jumping into watching the series. Overall after reading your review it looks a beautiful series to watch. I like how you broke down the first episode without revealing too much. That opening really throws viewers into confusion, which mirrors Offred's own disorientation.

I remember starting to watch this series, but I got stuck on the first episode. Like you said at the beginning, it’s confusing—I hardly understood it at all, so I didn’t keep watching. But I’ve heard and read good reviews about it. I don’t know—maybe I should give it another chance. I’ll wait for your review of the second episode to see if I feel like giving it another go, haha. Cheers.

The Testaments.
Thanks for stopping by. I do think it hasn't been given the recognition it deserves. I'll check it out; I haven't heard of it. I'll take a look.
