Have you ever seen breadfruit? At first glance, this fruit looks like a jackfruit. But the skin of the breadfruit has a neat little dot pattern. The biggest difference between the breadfruit and the jackfruit is their shape. Breadfruit is round and not too big. Meanwhile, the shape of the jackfruit is bigger and elongated.

I can't always find traditional market breadfruit. So when a seller offers this exotic fruit, I have no reason to refuse it. I was happy to take the breadfruit home.

Tips for buying breadfruit is to choose breadfruit with smooth fruit skin without small tears appearing. Also, lightly press down on the breadfruit. Make sure the breadfruit is still firm in texture.

Breadfruit is processed when it is still not fully ripe. This means that the condition of the fruit is not too young, nor is it ripe.

In its mid-aged state, it's a bit undercooked. This is due to the condition that ripe fruit which has a soft texture will have fiber which makes the fruit no longer able to be cut into small pieces.




Fried Breadfruit Recipe

For the breadfruit recipe, the only thing I will always remember is the fried breadfruit. From my childhood, my late mother served fried breadfruit for our afternoon snack, on the verandah of the house while drinking tea.

The fried breadfruit recipe is very easy to make. It's just that, preparing breadfruit that is ready to be fried will require a little time and effort.

So, the first thing we have to do is split the breadfruit. By the way, I have to be careful when cutting the breadfruit in half. Oops, my bad! It was indeed my fault that I didn't cook the breadfruit right away. So the breadfruit has become slightly overcooked. But I'm still pretty lucky that I can still get over it.

Then after cutting the breadfruit in half, I cut it into small pieces. After getting small pieces of breadfruit, then I peel them.

You can peel the breadfruit first and then cut them into small pieces. Do the steps that are most comfortable for you.


Wash the breadfruit pieces clean then prepare the seasoning water for the breadfruit marinade, as well as a way to remove the sap on the breadfruit.

Prepare two tablespoons of salt and 5 cloves of garlic. Then grind them into a paste.

Mix the garlic paste with water to soak the breadfruit that has previously been washed clean. Soak for thirty minutes before frying.

After the breadfruit has been soaked for 30 minutes, heat the cooking oil. Then fry them until golden brown. Don't forget to turn them over to cook them evenly.

Remove and serve the fried breadfruit while warm for the best taste. When it starts to cool, the crispy texture will disappear from the surface of the fried breadfruit.

No I have never seen breadfruit before and it looks quite delicious. Again a great recipe and again not available in my country. I think the soonest I can eat this is in a couple of years. But in the back of my mind I will not forget this fruit and I will eat it when the opportunity comes.
