81 grandmother's springtime || 81 primaveras de la abuela [Esp/Eng]

Existen seres especiales en nuestras vidas como lo son nuestros abuelos, estos que nos brindan su amor de manera desmedida, con quienes creamos un vínculo de complicidad y nos sentimos muy consentidos. Particularmente tengo la dicha de aún tener vivas a mis abuelas, en este caso la paterna estuvo de cumpleaños el pasado 7 de abril, nada más y nada menos que 81 años, una virtud enorme llegar a esa edad y de paso con salud.

There are special beings in our lives such as our grandparents, those who give us their love in an inordinate way, with whom we create a bond of complicity and we feel very spoiled. I am particularly fortunate to still have my grandmothers alive, in this case my paternal grandmother had her birthday last April 7, nothing more and nothing less than 81 years old, an enormous virtue to reach that age and with health.

Ella no tenía muchos ánimos de celebrar pues aún se siente nostálgica por haber quedado viuda hace 3 años, mi abuelo fue su compañero de vida desde que ella tenía 15 años y duraron 59 de casados, pues si, ella tenía apenas 17 cuando se casó. Otra razón es que todos mis familiares emigraron y en Cumaná solo vivimos, mi papá, ella, mi hijo y yo; realmente eran muchas cosas que le estaban afectando anímicamente, pero yo no podía dejar pasar ese día por debajo de la mesa.

She was not in the mood to celebrate because she still feels nostalgic for having been widowed 3 years ago, my grandfather was her life partner since she was 15 years old and they were married for 59 years, yes, she was only 17 when she got married. Another reason is that all my relatives emigrated and in Cumana we only live, my dad, her, my son and me; really there were many things that were affecting her emotionally, but I could not let this day pass under the table.

En complot con unas vecinas me puse de acuerdo que vinieran a compartir un rato, una de ella me ayudó a realizar la torta y bien temprano en la mañana la llevo a la casa, yo decore con algunos globos y cuando mi abuela salió de su cuarto no podía creer la sorpresa, pero eso no quedaba solo allí; en la tarde también vendrían unos amigos de la familia que son músicos, así que le pedí que se arreglara para tomarnos unas fotos y asi no sospechara nada. De paso una amiga de ella la fue a visitar y le regaló otra torta, así que teníamos doble.

One of them helped me make the cake and very early in the morning she took it to the house, I decorated it with some balloons and when my grandmother came out of her room she could not believe the surprise, but that was not all; in the afternoon some friends of the family who are musicians would also come, so I asked her to get ready to take some pictures of us so she would not suspect anything. By the way, a friend of hers came to visit her and gave her another cake, so we had double.

Al final quedamos sorprendidos todos porque hubo un corte de luz, aun así fueron llegando algunos invitados, los músicos nos deleitaron con el cuatro y su mandolina y eso hizo hasta que mi abuela tuviera ganas de cantar (algo que hace muy bien desde niña), a todos nos contento demasiado verla asi. En vista que pasaban las horas y no llegaba la luz, cantamos cumpleaños temprano, a todos les gustó la torta de manzana y nueces que es su favorita, se compartieron algunos tragos y luego nos fuimos a descansar.

At the end we were all surprised because there was a power outage, even so some guests were arriving, the musicians delighted us with the cuatro and mandolin and that made my grandmother feel like singing (something she has done very well since she was a child), we were all very happy to see her like that. As the hours passed and the light did not come, we sang early birthday, everyone liked the apple and walnut cake that is her favorite, we shared some drinks and then we went to rest.

Se logro el cometido, que tuviera un cumpleaños feliz a pesar de las adversidades, de los que estan en la distancia y los que ya no estan físicamente con nosotros. Solo pido que mi viejita me dure muchos años y que siga lúcida y sana para seguir celebrando la vida con ella, ojalá me alcance la vida para agradecerle cada gesto que ella ha tenido hacia a mi y el cariño infinito hacia mi hijo.

The task was accomplished, she had a happy birthday in spite of the adversities, of those who are in the distance and those who are no longer physically with us. I only pray that my old lady will last me many years and that she remains lucid and healthy to continue celebrating life with her, I hope that life will be enough to thank her for every gesture she has made towards me and for the infinite affection towards my son.
