Hello dear Hive community, I hope you are well. Today I want to tell you about a re-reading I did, of a book that I had read several years ago in high school, where there was a book club for the theme of "stable groups" although I don't know if it exists today. The book is called "The Devil and Miss Prym".

I really liked that reading group that was made in the scale, we were never forced to read something we did not want to, the teacher recommended books and in some cases we got it to us to borrow. He suggested that we read Paulo Coelho because his stories always left a reflection or two and he didn't use such stilted language, so to speak, and it was useful to start reading. The Demon and Miss Prym tells the story of a lost village in Spain called Vizcos where most of the inhabitants are elderly and live a boring and monotonous life separated from the world. One day a young man arrives who has had a painful past and comes to stay 7 days in the village in order to answer the question: Is the human being good or bad? He offers some gold bars that were buried in the village, if during those 7 days someone dies in the village, will good or evil win?

The little town in the reading and rereading reminded me of the town where I live hahaha where everyone knows each other and the world if very monotonous the truth. The book starts in a subtle but interesting way making me interested in the characters because they are very real, Berta is the typical older person who really lives remembering her past and expects things that motivate her so to speak, Chantal Prym is one of the characters that maybe at the time I didn't understand well but now I do, she is a young woman who wants to get out of her town to be able to get a better future maybe not doing things that are not right like sleeping with those who stay in the hotel where she works in the hope that they will take her away and she is the one that maybe we can put ourselves in her shoes from time to time, instead the pilgrim is a person who has to deal with a past that torments him and so his existential question maybe a little selfish on his part as it is to relieve his guilt and if in reality people are bad it is not worth the conscience or anything, I think this character in itself is quite our inner conscience too as we have ever asked this question too and that is how we have our main characters.

With respect to the plot I like how it unfolds as it shows us that not even the priest is good, in how it is in reality no one is good or bad, but always represents an internal struggle on how to do things and why to do them, as all people are different depending on their beliefs and thoughts. Miss Prym is constantly the one that we can see in the struggle of good and evil and how the pilgrim without realizing it is answering the answer that was made, Paulo Cohelo is a good writer that in particular made me reflect, it is not boring and is easy to read. Something that I particularly like in addition to the fact that it is not so long. So, knowing this, do you give it a chance? do you think that human beings are good or bad by nature?

The phrases are part of the story, I liked them and decided to put them. If you read the story, what did you think? See you soon.

It looks like you've found a philosophical gem in this book. The temptation of gold; what's that old phrase about money corrupting? Dunno, but it goes to the heart of the human condition.
