Hoy se cumple un año en que oficialmente adopté a mi Chiquilín. Aún recuerdo cuando las rescatistas lo encontraron abandonado dentro de una cajita teniendo aproximadamente un mes de nacido, parecía un frijolito blanco. Mi bebé estaba muy maltratado, flaquito, lleno de heridas e infecciones y su piel lastimada. Una de las rescatistas le dio hogar temporal y cuando lo vi fue amor a primera vista, me enamoré de su dulzura y su mirada triste que pedía a gritos amor y cuidados.

A pesar de que los pronósticos con su salud no eran alentadores, yo siempre tuve la fe y la esperanza de que saldría adelante. Los primeros tres meses de vida fueron delicados, tenía recaídas y debíamos regresar al veterinario para hacerle más estudios y nuevos tratamientos, seguía en hogar temporal dando tiempo a que se recuperara para integrarlo a mi tropa que era muy territorial y me daba miedo que lo lastimaran.

Por fin mi chiquito agarró fuerzas y comenzamos el proceso de integración unas horas por día, así transcurrió todo el mes de enero satisfactoriamente hasta que por fin en febrero se quedó por completo en mi casa formando parte de mi manada de peluches hermosos. Los tratamientos continuaban pero de manera preventiva, alimentación especial y su control de vacunas y desparasitantes periódicamente.

Ya tiene 1 año y dos meses y lo sigo viendo pequeño, aunque estoy segura que dentro de poco se va a terminar de echar un gran estirón, y alcanzará a los demás. Con respecto a Nevado si es más grande pero es porque él tiene una condición especial por la que no creció más de ahí. A pesar de ser el más pequeño de la tropa, les cuento que este chiquitín ha tomado el control de todo y es el que tiene más carácter. Es muy travieso, eso ya lo había mencionado antes, tanto así que por él esta navidad estuvo limitada en decoraciones. No tienen idea de los atentados que le hizo al pobre árbol de navidad.

Soy fan de fotografiarlo en todas las posiciones que veo, es que para mí es una lindura. El veterinario me comunicó desde la primera vez, que él tiene fracturado el esternón posiblemente de nacimiento o por maltrato animal, pero que eso no le afecta. Aunque sí me dijo que era posible que en la vejez pudiera influir en su salud, que debía monitorear eso unos años más adelante. Se puede ver por la joroba en su lomo, y estando más pequeño también se palpaba en su pecho, ahorita no tanto. A pesar de eso, es un gatito muy sano, activo, juguetón, y bastante inquieto.

Pero todas esas memorias que van quedando de su evolución, yo las adoro, son parte de mi amor por protegerlo y darle la mejor calidad de vida posible, porque aunque me duela no poder cambiarle el mundo a todos, me siento feliz de darle todo a él y haberle cambiado su mundo.

Today marks one year since I officially adopted my Chiquilín. I still remember when the rescuers found him abandoned inside a little box, about a month old, looking like a tiny white bean. My baby was badly mistreated, skinny, covered in wounds and infections, and his skin was damaged. One of the rescuers gave him a temporary home, and when I saw him, it was love at first sight. I fell in love with his sweetness and his sad eyes that cried out for love and care.

Even though the prognosis for his health wasn't encouraging, I always had faith and hope that he would pull through. The first three months of his life were difficult; he had relapses, and we had to go back to the vet for more tests and new treatments. He remained in a temporary home, giving him time to recover before joining my pack, who were very territorial, and I was afraid they would hurt him.

Finally, my little one gained strength and we began the integration process a few hours a day. This went well throughout January until, finally, in February, he stayed permanently at my house, becoming part of my pack of beautiful stuffed animals. The treatments continued, but preventively, with special food and regular vaccinations and deworming.

He's now one year and two months old and I still think he's small, although I'm sure he'll soon have a big growth spurt and catch up with the others. Nevado is bigger, but that's because he has a special condition that prevented him from growing any larger. Despite being the smallest of the group, I can tell you that this little guy has taken charge and has the strongest personality. He's very mischievous, as I mentioned before, so much so that this Christmas we had to limit our decorations because of him. You have no idea the damage he did to the poor Christmas tree.

I love taking pictures of him in every position I see; he's just so adorable. The vet told me from the first visit that he has a fractured sternum, possibly from birth or due to animal abuse, but that it doesn't affect him. He did say, however, that it could potentially affect his health in old age, and that I should monitor it for a few years. You can see it because of the hump on his back, and when he was younger, you could also feel it on his chest, though not as much now. Despite that, he's a very healthy, active, playful, and quite restless kitten.

But all those memories I'm making of his life are precious to me. They're part of my love for protecting him and giving him the best possible quality of life. Because even though it hurts that I can't change everyone's world, I'm happy to give him everything and to have changed his world.
