Recent Fungi sightings on a short walk
On short walk a couple of days ago I came across this aged mushroom growing at the base of an old Hemlock stump.
Not positive but I think it might be Boletus coniferarum/ conifer bolete.
Hemlock trees are conifers.
That part of the identification matched in my researching.
It looks past it's peak and somewhat dried out but still beautiful to me in my Fungi Lovers eyes.
If this is Boletus coniferarum is listed as inedible.
I'm glad I continued to take more pictures.
I like some of the blue sky captured in this photo.
On my return trip back out of the woods I took a different route as I usually always do hoping I will find more mushrooms.
I spotted this little sunny yellow beauty growing up out of some leaf matter next to a decaying log.
There's a close by running stream of water. This area is always damp. A great environment for fungi.
I have no positive identification on this mushroom either.
The closest comparison I could find so far is Pluteus.sp
I gently removed some of the damp leaves from around it so I could get a better look at the stem and see if could get a peek under it's cap.
My fiddling around with it even though I was being very careful trying to not to disturb it to much it still came crashing down onto the forest floor.
🙁
Crashing is perhaps over dramatizing the event just a little bit 😉😁.

I agree !. . It does.
@ewkaw
Feeling insecure with my identification I didn't harvest it but I truly admired it 😊.
:-D
Ewka, nie szerz tutaj herezji :D To Goryczak żółciowy, trujący, niejadalny - gorzki niesamowicie. Napisze o nim wkrótce :)
It looks, doesn't mean it is :D
That is a cool bolete. The webbing on the stem seems to be a bit more unique than a conifer bolete. I read somewhere that boletes that grow out of wood can be poisonous...
😊
Thank You !
@sketch.and.jam
I'm not sure what kind of Bolete it is. Positive it's growing on a Hemlock stump.
I have read the same thing about not eating the ones growing on wood.
I'll continue to look and see if I can find more identifying photos.
:-D
I think it might be a Tylopilus felleus aka bitter bolete. They've been known to grow on really old wood like that. The stalk webbing pattern really looks distinct to the bitter bolete. Plus it look enormous which is a good characteristic of bitter boletes. Another step to take is to take a tiny little nibble and see if it tastes like a super bitter thing lol. I did that once and it was indescribable how bitter it was. Fortunately it isn't poisonous just not edible either (though in Mexico they somehow eat it with skimmed milk lol gross). A better test would be to cut a piece off and see if it stains. If no staining or bruising occurs then it is probably a bitter bolete.
🤗
Thank You..!!
@sketch.and.jam
I looked up Tylopilus felleus and it definitely looks like it.
I didn't do the taste test but I should have and I definitely should have seen if it stained blue. That's always easy to do.
:-D
Thank You..!
I recommend you don't do the taste test lol. Its crazy bitter. About how big was the cap? I found one that was nearly volleyball sized a few years ago.
😯😮😯
Wowzaaa...!!! Awesome..!
This one was in no way that huge. That would have been a fantastic sight to see..!!
I would say it was approx.4- 5 inches.
Maybe the one I saw had some serious growing up to do 😁.
Maybe the colder weather/frost stunted it's growth.
:-D
😯👀👀
Looking at your photo again.
That's a mushroom spaceship...!!!
😄
volleyball size? no, spaceship size. hehe!
😊
I really hope to see/find one volleyball size liked you found...!!
@sketch.and.jam
Most awesome,excellent and amazing that would be.
Kinda sad to see fungi season coming to end.
I'm surprised I haven't seen any oysters.
Yeah I have already resorted to growing reishi now that the mushrolms are almost gone. I might find some velvet foots possibly aka winter mushrooms.
Happy #FungiFriday, Anne (again). love your tropheys this week xD
🤗🍄
Thank you..!!
