Follow me to visit and see the cultural heritage that is still protected on Pulau Weh

Pulau Weh is one of the islands famous for its beautiful sea located at the western tip of Indonesia, but on the island we will also find a place in the middle of the city that holds stories from hundreds of years ago, a place where we can see directly how the Acehnese people used to live, make houses and do arts, its name is Gampong Aceh.

Heritage isn't just found in museums, where we sometimes think cultural heritage is far away because we have to open a thick book or visit one. But in Kampung Aceh, specifically in Kuta Ateuh village, the heritage is tangible, tangible, tangible.

Well, in this blog, I'll share this place. So, follow me as I explore this cultural heritage, still preserved on Pulau Weh through its stilt houses, through its colors, through the writings I'll share. Located in Kuta Ateuh Village, Sabang City, Aceh.
Which is located next to the main road and the road is also Jln. Pramuka and here we can see one of the areas called Gampong Aceh which can be used for cultural education, photography, learning history to seeing art as well as regarding facilities, I think this place is adequate where there is already parking, Gazebo for photos and open space and these are some of the pictures I took while visiting the place that I am sharing this time on my trip

Gampong Aceh is a culinary and cultural tourism destination officially opened by the Sabang city government. This area offers a unique traditional atmosphere, with buildings resembling Acehnese stilt houses, complete with footwashing jars and rice threshers, better known as jengki in our traditional language.

Upon entering the area, I was immediately greeted by a distinctively traditional atmosphere. Next to it, I found a cafeteria selling snacks for visitors who wanted to enjoy the park.

Then, upon entering the area, I was immediately greeted by a traditional Acehnese house. This house caught my attention with its black base combined with red, yellow, and green ornaments, its high, towering roof, stairs on the side, a large door in the center, and the words cafe kopi written on the front, indicating that this house has now been adapted as a hangout spot on Pulau Weh. As I mentioned above, this place is managed by the Sabang city government, but unfortunately, when I visited, the management was no longer adequate.

I began exploring the area, and found it to be so cool and serene, it felt like I'd stepped into an ancient Acehnese village.

As I explored the area, I came across rows of traditional Acehnese houses built on stilts, with sturdy pillars, plank and woven bamboo walls, and thatched roofs. Underneath, you can sit and relax or chat, where relics from the past are kept.
Personally, upon examining the details of the houses, I could see that the materials used were simple yet sturdy. I felt these Acehnese houses were perfectly suited to Aceh's hot, flood-prone climate. My favorite thing about visiting this place was the atmosphere, which transported me back to a bygone era.

Next, I looked at the detailed ornamentation of the Acehnese houses, and I think you can also see the carvings in the images I shared above. Every line and color has a meaning.

One of the guides there said that black signifies authority, yellow signifies prosperity, and red signifies courage. The stairs next to the Acehnese house are not just access points but also symbols. As a guide in the area, he explained that Acehnese houses are designed not only as residences but also to express identity. Therefore, I believe Gampong Aceh is important to preserve. Besides providing a peaceful and unique atmosphere reminiscent of ancient times, it also serves as a cultural education platform for young people in Sabang, who can learn firsthand about their own traditional houses. Furthermore, Pulau Weh, renowned for its beauty, remains popular for its cultural tourism, one of which is the spot I'm sharing on this blog.
