The popularity of my bird canteen is growing

Hello, my friends.

Hi, friends of birds.

January 1, the first day of the year. On this day, I try not to deal with global problems. Once upon a time, my wife and I decided that on this day we could lie in front of the TV and watch holiday movies and cartoons. But when you have your own house, when you have different animals, you just can't lie around. Yesterday I went to bed at 2 a.m., and today at 6 a.m. my eyes have already opened. I forced myself to sleep until 7:30, but I couldn't sleep anymore. I went to feed the rabbits and the dog, put firewood in the boiler to keep the house warm. At about 8:20, I sat down at my workplace and looked out the window. And I saw an unexpected guest.
It was a Eurasian Jay.

This bird came to my feeder only once. Anyway, I saw her once in the winter of 2020.
I quickly grabbed my camera and started photographing the jay. And I saw that another bird had arrived, followed by 2 more. There were 4 birds.
Wow, I was glad of such luck.
The fact is that yesterday I hung 2 new pieces of lard on a tree. The jays started pecking at these pieces. I would even say that they began to tear the fat with their beaks. This has never even been done by magpies. By the way, jays are a little smaller in size than magpies, but they were quite large. All tits and sparrows flew away from the feeder.

It turned out that these birds were not going to fly anywhere at all! More precisely, they flew somewhere for 5 minutes, and then came back again. At some point, there were 5 birds at once! Tits and sparrows flew up to the feeder in the absence of these large birds, but as soon as the jays arrived, so the small birds immediately flew away from the feeder.

The Jays weren't content with just lard! They started actively eating sunflower seeds from the feeder. It was already a bad thing on their part. I did not expect such a turn of affairs. I even started to drive away these robbers, but they were not afraid of me and came back time after time.
The sun had already gone below the horizon, it was dark outside the window, and the jays were still sitting on the tree.

I understand that information about my bird canteen has spread among birds and has a high rating. If you also consider that this dining room is also visited by a hawk. Today he flew in again. I heard a big bang on the window. It was clear that it was a bird that hit the glass. There were even traces of this blow that had never happened before. I looked out the window, there wasn't a single bird in the tree. So everyone flew away from fear. It was clearly a hawk again. My wife is very sad about this occasion. She doesn't want a hawk hunting in our bird canteen.

If the jays will fly in every day in the future, then this is not very good.
I will continue to observe what is happening at my bird feeder. Now titmice, bullfinches, and grosbeak are frolicking around her.

Heard a ton of Jays in my last birdwatching sessions, but none was kind enough to pose. Great photos you have there!
