Rage Against the Machine consisted of four members, two of whom were leaders. Tom Morello, one of the most original guitarists of all time, brutally influenced everything that followed. You can invent sounds never before created on the guitar, before a credit in the liner notes of the band's first album indicated that no keyboards, samples or synthesizers were used on the record. The true master of the six paths. His parents were immigrant activists. His Italian-Irish mother founded the Anti-Rap Censorship Association in 1987, his father was a partisan in his native Kenya, and his grandfather became the country's first president after independence.

But his life was not easy. His parents divorced when he was less than two years old. Her mother left her hometown of Harlem and moved to Illinois, where Tom was the only black person in her neighborhood. His childhood experiences were so powerful that he said, "I knew what racism was from the first day I entered kindergarten." Having never worked in politics, he studied political science at Harvard with the intention of being self-taught. That intention disappeared after two years of working with left-wing senator Alan Cranston. He compromised his ideals by spending all day on the phone begging for money from the rich. "It made me realize how dirty this world is." Morello's future lies in hanging up his guitar and taking his message to places where the control of the system does not allow him to prostitute what he believes.

Zach de la Rocha lived a similar life. His immigrant parents divorced when he was young and he and his mother moved to a neighborhood where they were the only Hispanics in a white community. De la Rocha said how frustrated he sometimes heard his classmates laugh at his teacher, who called Mexicans "fish," and how frustrated he felt when they remained silent. Once again, music serves to channel the musician's inner demons.
