Christmas Foodstuffs Buying

Merry Christmas to you all! Today I visited one of the popular markets in Makurdi Benue state, Nigeria. I went there to get some Christmas foodstuffs. You know that on Christmas day, we love cooking rice and stew that must be well garnished with meat and other ingredients. During Christmas, I prefer buying cooking items myself. This is to enable me to get the complete food items since I’ll be cooking the food myself.

Since today happens to be Christmas Sunday, most markets don’t normally function well. This happened to me when I visited the Wurukum Makurdi market. Most of the items that I wanted to buy were nowhere to be found. The first thing that I wanted to buy from the Wurukum market was a complete frozen chicken but the people that sold the chicken didn’t come to the market. Without a chicken to prepare Christmas stew, I don’t think that would be ever possible because a lot of visitors will be coming.

Immediately I didn’t get where to buy a frozen chicken from the Wurukum market. I asked one of the marketers there in the market where I could get a frozen chicken. The guy was so kind to have directed me to another nearby market known as the High-level Makurdi market.

When I got to the high-level market, I was opportune to see a frozen chicken shop. I entered the shop and priced their frozen chicken. To my greatest surprise, one full chicken which measured about 1.4 kilos was sold to me at about $6.2. This was shocking to me than to be compared to the last Christmas chicken prices.

After I bought the frozen chicken from the high-level market, I wanted to buy other items like tomatoes, pepper, rice, and others. But the cost here in the high-level market is very high than to be compared to the Wurukum market. In this regard, I have to move down again to the Wurukum market again.

When I got back to the Wurukum market, I bought a large number of tomatoes at about $1.3 while pepper was about $0.61.

After I bought the tomatoes and pepper, I have to buy some rice to make the whole thing complete. When I moved down to where I bought rice, a custard painter of rice was sold to me at about $8.4.

After I bought the rice, I decided to buy some onion at about $0.44.

After I bought the whole Christmas food items from both Wurukum and the High-level market Makurdi, I observed that both markets were not populated just like how the Christmas market was supposed to be. When I asked some questions about the scanty in the market. I was told that things in the market are very costly and besides the economy is not all that stable. Well, I believe that next Christmas market will be good.

Everything that is sold nowadays are inflated because of high demand.
By the way, the tomatoes look fresh and delicious to eat.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.☺️

I hope that 2023 will be exceptional in inflation. At least for things to get better for both the rich and the poor masses to afford from the market. Merry Christmas!

I usually try to purchase a few days before Christmas to avoid having to run out when am having people coming. I would be too afraid of not being able to get what I need in a timely manner.

You were fortunate and everything was fresh and delicious looking! I am so happy that everything worked out well for you! I hope you had a Merry Christmas!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

I just had no option than working around two different markets at the same time. But great that things later work out well. Merry Christmas and happy new year in advance.
