Happy Sunday to every member of this community, hope you’re enjoying yourself with family and friends. Today, I’ll be sharing with you some knowledge and experience which I gathered from my little Okra (lady’s fingers) farm I visited today.

Considering the economic decline and hardship in Nigeria which has led to a decrease in foodstuffs and livestock, the president of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari, and the Governor of Benue state Samuel Ortom have charged everybody in the country to start engaging in Agriculture in order to produce food that will be sustaining the country at the moment.

Having understood my President and the Governor of Benue state where I am currently based for now as they advised we should embark on agricultural farm planting, I have to start by making a little Okra farm in order to aid my family with enough vegetables and also for the cooking of soup.

Today, after a month and a few weeks on my Okra farm, I visited the farm and noticed that the plant is well taken care of by a friend's mother because the land where I farmed the Okra is close to their house. I thanked the woman for not allowing goats to eat off my Okra because around the area of the Okra farm, many people living there are training goats and other domestic animals which are hindrances to small farming especially when close to where people are living.

When I was going through the Okra farm, I also noticed that the soil is really okay for the Okra because the leaf is hundred percent green which means that the plant is healthy with enough nutrients gathered from the soil. Though, when I was tilling the soil for the Okra plant, I make sure that I first pour some cow dump into the soil before tilling, I used the soil to cover the cow dump and allowed it for two days before planting my Okra. The purpose why I did that was to make the soil gain more nutrients and be helpful to the Okra which I planted.

As I was also going through the Okra farm, I also noticed that the Okra has started producing some Okra seeds which could be used for cooking soup or eating yam. This was a very good move for my Okra plant as I was overwhelmed to see such. I mostly enjoy eating white cooked yam with Okra prepared with red oil, onion, pepper, and a little salt.

Do you know that eating Okra on weekly basis helps to boost the immune through it vitamin C. Okra vegetable is very rich when it comes to vitamins because its vitamin K also helps the body clot blood to function well at all times? Okra vegetable also helps pregnant women in meeting up with their daily folate.

Ways to plant your Okra:

You will need to go to the market and buy the old Okra seed. It used to be dry and dark in color.

Make sure to clear the plant where you want to do your Okra farm.

Make sure that the soil is always I bit wet to keep the Okra growing.

You can till the land a little.

Open the soil which you have tiled with a knife or hand.

Take three or two seeds of the Okra and put them inside the soil and cover.
