Reflection Hunters #42 | Hello, Winter!

avatar

Hello, Shadows and Reflection Hunters! It's been a while since I was last able to share some of my photos here. It was quite challenging for me because I had not been going out for some time and any shadow photos I took of late were really meh and would just pale out in comparison to the creative entries I see around here.

Looking back, I can see that the last post I shared here was two months ago. Wow! Two months! How can that possibly be? But there, I mentioned that the desert weather was cooling down already and "it's the outdoor season". So finally, we can walk around the city without getting toasted. LOL

Clouds, Finally!

Oh "winter" in the UAE is not characterized by snow and all that jazz. It is more of "super hot" and "not so hot" seasons to be precise. But mornings are cold and even the mid-afternoon gush of wind is chilly, we can even afford to stay under the sun and get some pleasant warmth.

We are so used to cloudless skies most of the year so anytime we see big clouds nowadays, we almost always wish for rain (like now as I am typing this post). But rain is another story here in the desert. It's mostly artificial rain and through my noob eyes, I think these clouds we have now are great candidates for cloudseeding.

Anyway, speaking of clouds, one fine day, my Little Man and I were walking around and we saw this big puff of clouds mightily blocking Mr. Sun! No need to look directly at the sky though -- this car window got us covered. We were able to capture the moment through a car.

Here's another more close-up view. Beautiful. Don't you agree?

The Lake Park

Another activity that we love during these months is going to the park. A few weeks ago, we went to the The Lake Park to meet some friends.

This is a man-made lake in the middle of the park. Depending on which spot in the park you take, you can of course have different reflection views. This one is from the left-most part of the park. It is from where the lake ends (or begins) and it captures the cityscape and the trees too. I almost wished it was not too windy that day because the wind created ripples on the water that somehow distorted the reflections.

We have lots of memories here since this park is very accessible to all of us friends -- it is near the city center, so if there's any place where it is easy to gather most of us, it is this park.

I have written more details about this park in my blog post linked above, just in case you are interested.

Al Mamoura

We went to pick up some urgent grocery items and we decided to just walk to a not-so-near grocery store. Because this little spot took our attention the last time we passed by here, we made sure to stop and spend some time sitting under this beautiful structure. It is so refreshing - with the blue skies above us and the perfectly landscaped surroundings.

Of course, it was also a great time to take some pictures and I accidentally saw this reflection as I was taking selfies with the kids.

Yes! Finally, something worth sharing with this community!

I guess that's it from me for this round. Hope you all are having a great day. Happy shadows/reflections hunting!

PS - I asked my kids to "vote" which they think is the best reflection photo and the Lake Park photo got a 3-0 unanimous vote. So that's our Reflection Hunters Contest Round 42 entry. What do you think?
