Then The Seagulls Came | Chilly Beach Time

Winter Weekend

It's the weekend! I was not feeling too well the night before and I hoped to stay at home and just catch up on some sleep this Friday. The kids however had other plans and they started to chant, "Beach! Beach! Beach!" to my ears.

Like seriously, it's windy and chilly outside. Who would want to go swimming at the beach? Well, my kids do and apparently, they're not the only ones.

Al Hudayriat Beach

Needless to say, the kids were successful in nagging us to go to the beach on this cold, windy day. It was foggy in the morning so a sunny afternoon was indeed a delight.

We decided to check out Al Hudayriat Beach again, with hopes that there won't be a lot of people. Until now, they only allow 40% max capacity and there was a time when we had to go back because the queue of people waiting to go inside was just too long!

It's the second time we're coming here to this beach, and if you've been following, I have shared our experience here as well.

We were a bit surprised to find that we were not the only ones who wanted to hang out at the beach. There were lots of people, families mainly. Most were not swimming though, but just having picnics and settled at the concrete benches near the gate.

The family area near the gate was quite full so we settled at the left-most end.

The kids braved the ice-cold water, while I was contented with just sitting on the sand and watching them. Thankfully, the sun was out to give us some warmth.

Then The Seagulls Came

While swimming, the kids already noticed some birds wading on the water. The UAE, having a much milder coastal winter, had been a favorite destination of seagulls for many years. Last month, we had an amusing encounter with seagulls at the Breakwater. Today, we were lucky to have another experience with them.

Interestingly, these birds do not shy away from people but instead come close especially when people start throwing them food.

Above, you can see a boy trying to lure the seagulls to perch on his hand filled with food.

The birds would hover above us then go back near the water, only to circle back to the shore. They were so entertaining, I do not regret giving in to the kids' request.

This is nature therapy at its best. You can easily forget the worries and whatever ails you when you are this close to nature!

The sun was starting to go down and the wind was getting colder every minute. The seagulls were putting on a show and capturing them on video was apt. Let me share with you a short clip of these beautiful birds:

Swimming is no longer allowed after sunset but people can choose to stay within the grounds and just enjoy the nice, cool weather. As for us, our hands were already getting numb from the chilly breeze and we did not have enough clothing to warm us up so we decided to leave already.

Before that, let me leave you with a couple of sunset shots from today.
