Sunset and Taal Volcano | San Nicolas Baywalk
My sister out of nowhere thought we should go to San Nicolas Baywalk last Sunday. San Nicolas is a nearby town where we could have a front seat view of the picturesque Taal Volcano and the Taal Lake.
Taal Volcano is one of the smallest (if not the smallest) active volcanoes in the world, and the second most active volcano in the Philippines. It is a complex volcano system with 47 volcanic craters. The main crater is the small one on left side of the photo, but the recent eruptions are from this bigger one on the right side.
Taal Volcano erupted last 2020 and remains under Alert Level 1 due to low-level unrest, where the PHIVOLCS warns of possible hazards like steam-driven, phreatic, or gas-driven explosions. Time and again it is reported to have minor eruptions, emiting plumes. Despite this, there are still lots of people who come by the baywalk to see the view especially at sun down. Do note though that the volcano island is a permanent danger zone.
We can also see here the other side of Mt. Maculot from here. Sometimes, we can't help but wonder, "What if Mt. Maculot is also a volcano?"
San Nicolas was one of the towns largely affected by the last major eruption with tonnes of ashfall and even big cracks on the ground (sinkholes) due to frequent strong earthquakes.
We spent some time walking down the baywalk trying to take in the majestic view. There were lots of people, majority of whom I would bet were also like us who came from other towns.

I haven't seen a view from the Taal Volcano in person, and I only saw it on news, social media, and books. Hoping I could visit Batangas to witness such sunset, and at the same time have a glimpse of the beautiful Taal Volcano.
Hope you also get the chance soon! <3
This view is really relaxing. I saw the view of taal in tagaytay only
Yes, it is indeed a sight to behold. <3
Love the walk along the bay
Seeing active Volcanos is an experience never to be forgotten
Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)
Thank you! I grew up in this province but this is my first time to see this volcano this close. It is indeed and experience, and quite a great one especially with my kids.
brough back memories of me climbing an active volcano/Mountain in NZ and it erupted while we were up there thrilling and scary at the same time
Oh my! I can only imagine the feeling!
There were also lots of similar stories in this volcano in 2020. It was a tourist spot, with the crater lake and all and there were people on there when the eruption happened.
so you can relate for sure :)
I went here last May, not on the area but in Tagaytay.
Your photos and escaped of Taal is more beautiful than I!
Thanks!
