Robbie changed it, making it become much more than that. The second generation of Akiards have grown up knowing more about their past than the first at that age but we had never had a telling that showed the full story. Nobody has asked Meli to censure her tellings, I doubt that she does so consciously either. During the telling she is sensing the gestalt emoting of her audience but she is also sensitive to individuals and she’d held back, feeling they were not ready to see and hear the truth in its entirety. Robbie called for the kids and then he asked her to do a full telling this time. If they were ready, perhaps she would have done so anyway, but this way Robbie became their hero all over again.

Captain Foorize had seen or met most of the species of our world (Freddie), but seeing them all together in their multitudes left him amazed at the variety our universe holds. Wait until he hears that there are thousands more.

Have we become blasé about our gifts? We did not have the telling yesterday. When we had the golden circle of love we sensed that it had shattered the Captain. The experience is beautiful beyond my ability to describe and nothing about it was that much different for the species of the Captain, but for him, personally, it was shattering. They are a caring and loving species, but circumstances and his dreams for his people had forced him to shut off all his needs and he did not have a mate or family. Our golden circle of love was like a surgeons knife, lancing the boil. The Sparklers moved him to his home and he was left alone for the night. The next morning Freddie reported privately that he was walking in the fields and seemed to be very unhappy. Without saying a word, Orshiir left us.

Before Orshiir came in sight, she altered herself. When the Captain saw her, he stopped moving, frozen in shock. He spoke as she came closer. “Have they started bringing back our people?”

“No. I am Orshiir. Just for today I have come to be with you and be the daughter you never had. Captain Foorize, open yourself to what I am today so that you learn that having a family does not weaken your need to serve your people, it strengthens it.”

After a stunned moment he laughed weakly. “If you are to be my daughter, it would be better you call me Trutie, no daughter would call her father by his given name, but it is better than using my title.”

She chattered gaily, the things she spoke of being what a child would say and her childish enthusiasms making her very endearing. Nobody dared approach Robbie with problems, for he was concentrating on her, his heart filled with love. Not that any of us had anything else more important to do either. A couple of hours later he took her hand in his and she smiled up at him and for a while he almost forgot that she was not a Forttaki girl child and allowed himself to start to love her. Maria sent them a picnic lunch and they only returned to us at supper time. Orshiir did not leave his side and we were touched to feel that he was feeling possessive of her and wishing she did not have to change back to her normal self. No three guesses given for who Robbie chose that night.

It must be the first time as an adult that Trutie has forgotten his worries. He is totally caught up in the telling (yes, he was horrified when he realised Robbie was having sex with children, which tells us a lot about his species - I hope they end up with their own Robbie to protect their children from those who don’t truly love children). This was a strange telling in another way also. Orshiir sat with Trutie, as herself, but having known her true self, it did not stop him from being affectionate and emoting the beginnings of love for her. If it had not been what he’d needed, it would have been a sneaky trick. Angel and I sat with the Muyzith, so Lucy went to Asimi and Sharipya, Candy sat with her Iziko, leaving Robbie with only the rest of his loves to surround him. This time he had Tseri on his lap, with Spice, Assimé and Alice leaning against him. Cherine put her arm around Diana, so her daughters sat with Aganthi. The rest sat with whoever was their close friend of the moment.

Trutie hesitated, emoting his awe, and then asked Solomon, “Would it be possible to visit the Sparkler World?”

“With pleasure, whenever you wish.”

6112

“Why don’t you leave that for tomorrow?” Robbie asked. Trutie agreed and we excused ourselves. Soon Trutie found himself alone, all species having disappeared. There was no need for a meeting, everyone went home, made themselves comfortable and we sent our healers to help Robbie’s as we collected the Forttaki souls. Robbie had decided it would be a nice gesture to surprise Trutie with the sight of all his people living in the Sparkler World. He loves the idea of watching the shock on his face.

“Did I offend you yesterday, by asking to go to the Sparkler World?”

“You didn’t, we had some business to take care of.” Hmph! Business in Freddie? (R: I’m pleased, Sam is waking up to the importance of words, writing here must be doing her mind some good.)

Robbie was not the only one who was closely monitoring captain Foorize when he arrived. We did not arrive on a surface. We hovered in ‘space’ with an adjusted Forttaki planet slowly revolving before us. As we sank he exclaimed as he recognised their cities. When he saw that they are inhabited he turned dizzy and we felt the tears inside him.

6113

We managed to move the first planet with minimal damage to it and Robbie said that since you engineered this, he felt it would be safe to move the Forttaki planet now, since you are bound to be assuming it will work. Just to be safe, not reflecting any doubt in your ‘assuming’ powers, we first took all the Forttaki off the planet.

6114

It has been done Arthur! We’ve spent most of today taking the Forttaki to their new homes. They have decided they want part of their population to live on the first planet, since it is no worse off than theirs. I’m not certain I understand the logic behind their decision since it means they are narrowing their gene pool.

Both planets are the same distance from the sun, just on opposite sides. This means they cannot see each other and travel between them is a lengthy trip since their spaceships cannot build up too much speed due to the small distance. For them to communicate, the Unation ships had to place satellites in direct line of contact. Freddie is sitting on the same orbit, but between the two planets and spaceships are flying off every day to help the Forttaki rebuild.

I did not expect us to be finished this quickly. Sixteen days and they already have houses, shops, factories and offices! Since a number of them are suitable for linking, Cherine has asked that the other Cherines link them. She felt that Robbie did not like the idea of ‘his’ Captain Foorize being linked by a different Cherine, but she stuck to her guns. I’m glad, they must all feel they are part of the spread of Cherinianism and it will give them a personal reason for wanting to visit here more often.

A large number of Forttaki, not just their Cherinians, asked to return with us to watch the return of the Paerin. We made certain that every one of them helped by meeting the souls of Paerin in the void and carrying them to their new bodies. Since all our scientists also took part, they learnt from their healers the secret of the Paerin. To either side of their nostrils are two hollow bones which vibrate as they hum or sing. The brain extends two minor lobes that touch on the inner part of the two bones. Obviously the vibration creates an effect within the bones that we still do not understand, affecting the manner in which they experience time.

It is very rarely that we do not bring back souls to bodies within Freddie. This was one of those occasions, we created their bodies in more or less the area they’d previously lived. I’ll tell you something; it is not the same listening to a broadcast, within hours we were taking turns in returning to Freddie for a break to avoid listening to them. They do not use the same organs for singing and talking so their songs never stop, as Wendy says, their songs are in constant flux, evolving from one song to another, spiking or collapsing at odd times, maybe whenever they alter time. At least the broadcast was one set of noise at a time, here we had each of them singing their own song to contend with. The Cherinian Forttaki were amused at our reactions and stuck it out, doing all they could to explain they feel no malice for the attack on their spaceship and promised to return once they have the ability to travel between planets. They kept on repeating their message, for in the middle of delivering them, the Paerin would make derogatory remarks about them and us and then walk off.

Mentally we were exhausted by our first night and sat eating in glum silence.

“It will take us another five days to finish bringing all the souls back to their bodies. After that I suggest I create a platform so that we and the Forttaki can watch them from a distance. There is no point in torturing ourselves by staying among them.”

“Why do you want to watch them?”

“They will discover over the next day or two that they cannot feed themselves and as more of them return, the problem will become more acute. It strikes me that this would be the golden opportunity for the Forttaki to make a gesture the Paerin cannot ignore - however much they deplore our lack of appreciation of their music.”

“You will provide us with food machines? How do we set them for producing the foods they eat?”

“You’ll have to show them how to do it themselves.”

“We don’t have enough food machines to give each of them one.”

6115

“Are there enough to give each family one? Then that will have to do until we can return with more.”

“Robert?”

“Yes Wendy mou?”

“Can we set a price for each machine?”

We all tried to guess what her thoughts were (of course we do not peek). Robbie stared into her eyes with a hint of a smile, “I think I’ve partly guessed what the price is.”

“Each of them sings a different song. I want to give them recorders for them to sing into. One song per family will keep us busy for a long time.”

“Are you going to use their music, apart from using it to drive us crazy.”

“Yes, in three ways.” She teased us by not explaining, waiting for us to ask. “The first use will be for the scientists who are trying to work out how their time sense differs, with my translations they should manage to pinpoint the individual differences by comparing a large number of songs. Secondly, for me to translate and all of us to enjoy. Thirdly, if they stop broadcasting, Franz is going to be miserable, we have to give him a player with a copy of all their songs.”

Haven grinned. “How are you going to give them to him, he’ll send more missiles if we try to approach him.” She was only teasing since Franz does not have any more missiles, but we did find her question funny.

Everything went according to plan. They appeared to grudgingly accept the food machines until they heard what the price is. Suddenly they changed and doted on the Forttaki, apologising for attacking and asked them to visit as often as they can - so that they can collect the recordings of their latest songs. I teased Wendy and it was one of those rare times that my joke made everyone laugh. I suggested we arrange for her to be special friend to the Paerin.

Iziko offered his lander (it is capable of inter-solar-system flight since it also serves as an emergency vehicle if the ship becomes damaged) to the Forttaki and the Unation leaders promised to bring them another four so that they can visit the Paerin whenever they wish and also for mining minerals they need from the small moons and asteroids of their system, since we know that their planets do not have any high concentrates of mineral ores. Robbie promised we will be returning soon and somehow managed to avoid giving them a chance to invite us to a farewell ceremony.

She was amused. “It is not me so much, mostly it is Jessie, I think I’m too old.”

“Too old? Eleni, you don’t look a day over eleven!”

“That is too old. Jessie stays at about seven, so it is the perfect age.”

6116

“You’ve confused me - what have your ages to do with the way you are treating Allan?”

“He loves it when little girls boss him around.” The look on my face made her burst out in laughter. Once she calmed down she explained, “He doesn’t mind if I do it now and then, but he loves it when Jessie does. As long as she does it in a childish way and is sweet.”

“I wonder if Robert would enjoy it.” That made her laugh again, but she refused to explain why. Nobody ever wants to tell me anything!

Goldi has a first of her own and we are all proud of her. She came to Meli’s world with us for a party the Gillians were having. Most of us did circulate, but ended up drifting into groups with friends or loved ones from back home or other realities. Goldi walked off with Mirella, daughter of Andrianna and Tasso. When Goldi laughs, the whole of Meli’s world seems to feel her and share in her joy. She’d been talking earnestly when her laughter tinkled in our hearts and then suddenly she was gone!

Before Robbie could panic, Agapi and Klo confided to us Goldi’s secret. She’d persuaded Mirella to return to Athens and had her go to Kefalari for a stroll to look at the crowds, look at the periptera (kiosk) magazines and a short rest at a favourite coffee shop of ours. Her brilliant idea was to ask Mirella to allow her to go with and share from within her mind.

They were gone for about two hours and as they arrived, our hearts seemed to squeeze a rapturous joy from the deepest corners to fill our bodies and minds. Goldi and Mirella were having a fit of the giggles and it did not take Mirella long to explain to us.

“My family love me the way I am so, although I have made myself a little prettier, I’ve kept my basic features. When we arrived in Athens I did not change myself and stayed about twelve years old, so I was very surprised when I noticed that men were turning around to stare at me as I walked. Within minutes they all seemed to be taking turns in trying to chat me up.

Goldi found it funny and kept on making jokes and without wanting to I kept on laughing. That encouraged the men and they would not leave us alone. When I rushed into the coffee shop Goldi wanted to visit, I chose a table inside. Within minutes the place was full!”

Robbie was grinning. “How did you manage to get away from them?”

“Goldi helped me persuade them they wanted to be somewhere else when we were ready to jump home for returning here.”

We have all lived with the magic that is Goldi from before her birth, but still, we were astounded that with her body light years away in a distant reality and part of our galaxy, her magic could still affect others so strongly. When they were about to return home, Dommi hugged Mirella and told her, “You’ll always carry a part of the magic Goldi left in you; use it whenever you need to.” We silently giggled in our minds at the knowledge that her family are going to be adoring her that night and she will be the center of their loving. We were not about to let Goldi off either and she made all of Freddie a world of happy beauty that night.

* * * * *

Lynda had been daydreaming and we have grown fairly used to it and do not monitor all the time. This time her feelings were strong, so we were all by her when she opened her eyes.

She anxiously squeezed Cherine’s arm as she told her, “There is a Robert and Cherine who need us. It seems their brains have been damaged.”

Cherine nodded, “Show Freddie where we must go.”

“Did you sense any threat?” Jade asked her.

6117

“No…mostly just a sadness.”

Because of the two who needed us, we did not spend much time examining the planet. We soon recognised that they are at the level our Earth was at in about 1980. We all noticed that England has a different shape and the scientists were soon able to explain that our England has been tipping, upwards in the south and downwards in the north, by about an inch every hundred years. It seems that on this planet it is tipping at about three times the speed, which explains why so much of Scotland is underwater.

We were surprised to find the couple living in England, whether as guests or not, we did not know, in a mansion about two hours out of London. Our first suspicion was that they must have got involved in crime and other criminals damaged them. Luckily, before we arrived at their home, we sensed Alki and Marian, so we did not embarrass them or ourselves with stupid questions. However, we did wonder, from everybody’s age, we do not think Cherine and Robert have been together for more than two years. Why would Alki have moved them to England?

Because Lynda had shown such anxiety for this couple, Robbie told her, “You go alone to meet them love, this is your project.”

Although we could sense she was nervous of screwing it up, I noticed she gave me a glance as she walked onto the property, and I promised myself I will not interfere, this is for her to deal with.

The house, before the main entrance, has a large pool for carriages and cars to drive around. Just from this pool I could see the owners are not British. It was not surrounded by a lawn, but by lovely flowerbeds of at least seven kinds of flowers. Robert and Cherine were sitting on the edge, mostly concentrating on what they were saying to each other. Our Cherine tried to sense them and she exclaimed.

“They are not in love!”

Agapi asked, “What if the damage to their brains made them forget they love each other?”

The day was a lovely summer day, mellow and gentle and all the flowers, even the wild plants, filled the air with scents. I could watch through Lynda, so I did not need to stay in one spot. I walked along the lane, taking a peek at the grounds now and then. About ten minutes later, just as Lynda was greeting the couple, I noticed movement further away. My sight of the area was mostly blocked by trees, so I kept walking, curious as to what Alki is doing (I knew that if he is making changes, the British high society are not going to be forgiving; they do not like anyone changing the status quo, especially if he is not British).

The young couple were friendly, for Lynda was a child and from her clothes she was obviously well off - though they did find her colourful pants strange. They asked if she is looking for someone, but Lynda was able to start a conversation without answering them.

I, on the other hand, was getting very curious at what I was seeing, for the movements I had seen earlier were now obviously soldiers - and even odder, not British soldiers, they seemed to be UN soldiers.

I walked to a tree and looking around first, I rose up to the top of it, while also creating an air disturbance that masked my features and shape. I could now see what was absorbing all the attention of the soldiers and I was shocked.

All I could see was the rear end of a spaceship. The rest of it was buried in the ground. From the loose soil surrounding the ship, plus the broken branches only now withering, I guessed the crash was recent, perhaps within the last two or three weeks. Robbie who was watching through me, suggested I try to sense if there are any people inside the ship and if they are hurt.

6118

I could not sense anyone, so I lay down on some grass and leaving my body I entered the ship. It turned out I was wrong in my assumptions, there were no bodies that I could see, but I did see two spaces for bodies similar to ours to lie in and be enclosed by a lid. I could not sense anything about their technology, but I could work out that it is advanced technology. Robbie was watching with me and sharing my thoughts and he agreed, we should not leave the ship here to the locals to reverse engineer the technology. We decide it should ‘disappear’ that night.

I could see the soldiers would not be trying to force an entry as the door is still underground, so I returned to my body and then concentrated on Lynda.

The three of them only made small talk, pleasant but not informative. What was more interesting was all the hints Lynda gave about empathy, sensing the emoting of others and so on, without the two of them reacting. She could sense that none of it meant anything to them. Dommi sent her a suggestion and Lynda asked whether she tried to bring back the soul of her father when he died.

She looked blankly at her and then said, “That is stupid, no one can do it.”

“You are right. It is just that I had a friend whose mother died and she tried to bring her back. She was convinced that if she tried hard enough, she could do it.”

While Cherine was responding to Lynda, Dommi was within Cherine, watching not only her thoughts, but also whether the right amount of links were lighting up.

“Are you American?” Robert asked.

“That was observant of you. I’ve been living with a British family for some years and I thought I had lost my accent.”

Dommi wanted to return to Freddie, so Lynda promised to visit them again and returned to us.

Maria had ready for us what each of us wanted (Aganthi was the only one to want to eat - a plate of lamb chops with mashed potatoes). After we’d had a sip or two, Robbie asked me, “Doesn’t it seem likely that the two of them met the aliens who landed and they were attacked? Maybe the aliens had only meant to make them forget they had seen them, but set their weapon at too high a setting.”

Cherine has grown too sensitive to me, for she jumped in to take a look at my thoughts. I grinned at her startled emoting.

“I’m wondering whether it could be that Cherine and Robert are the aliens? What if the aliens have a way of knowing about us and they created two clones of human beings, setting them to look like you and Cherine, and as they travelled across to Earth they were being imprinted with all the knowledge they will need for surviving on Earth. Because something went wrong and the spaceship crashed, they lost an entire layer or two of knowledge.” We decided to plan according to both possibilities being true.

The next day, without saying anything, just asking Robbie to wait for her, Cherine jumped back to the mansion. As she walked into their drive, Alki came out, ready to drive off to work or something.

She called out, “Pappou Alki, perimene (wait).”

He stopped, but only a few seconds later did he realise what she had said. “Cherinaki mou, did you call me pappou? You have not done so for more than a year! You have remembered! Let’s go tell your mother, she’ll be so happy.”

“Please wait, I need to talk to you first. Can we get in the car and drive a while as we talk?”

“Whatever you want agapi mou.”

6119

Cherine kept quiet as he negotiated the drive, but by the time he turned into the lane, she had made up her mind. She asked Alki to find a safe spot to park.

“I have been thinking of what I should say, but I realised whatever stories I tell you, you will think I am imagining it and that I am your Cherine. I’ve decided to do something very special for you - I want you to meet my pappou.”

At a thought from Cherine, Alki jumped to about ten metres from the car, so that his local alternate does not feel threatened in any way. He stood for a moment as they stared at each other and then with a smile and a wave to Cherine, he returned to Freddie. He had been forced to, as he could feel his alternate was halfway to have a heart attack. He got lots of hugs from all of us and he laughed. “We should do this more often.”

Cherines’ eyes were a gentle brown as Alki stared at her. “I am not your Cherine, pappou. I come from an alternate reality…let me explain that to you…”

“There is no need, o Robertos mas loved to tell us stories about an imaginary Robert and Cherine from a different reality. Are you really here from his dreams?”

“In a way.” She took hold of his hand. “Pappou, will you trust me and not get afraid? I want to take you to meet my family. Has your Robert told you that you have a number of daughters? Two of them are my wives.” He did not want to come, but if Cherine sets her heart on something, it seems to happen. As soon as he agreed, preparing to take the car back to the house, Cherine told him not to and jumped them with the car to an area about sixty metres from the taverna and us. We all left our seats and went to stand on the side of the taverna where he was and as he saw us, his eyes kept jumping from the one of us to the other.

He leant over and whispered to Cherine, “They are all so beautiful! Where could you find so much beauty? Not even an entire Earth could have so much beauty.” We are still vain enough for his comment to make us love him, but it felt odd that it also made Robbie love him more.

Her eyes twinkled as she responded, “I wonder if your favourite will be the same as for our Alki.” She got out of the car. “I am not including me, of course you have to love all Cherines the most. Was yours a problem-maker, like I am?”

“Yes, but she never really angered anyone…apart from her mother and Roberto.” We laughed, for it is the same with us.

Maria brought Greek coffees for both Alkis, and informed our guest that lunch is, “Σουτζουκάκια Σμυρνέικα με τηγανιτές πατάτες και σαλάτα (soutzoukakia with fried potatoes and salad).” She knows it is one of the favourite meals of our Alki.

Our Alki cut in, before we could begin to question him. “The mansion you are staying in - have you bought it? I can imagine you got it for a bargain price, but the taxes and maintenance must be crippling.”

He smiled, anticipation of making an impression, in his eyes. “The truth is, we, actually our Cherine, was given the mansion and the government waived all taxes and levies for ten years.” We pleased him by showing him how astounded we were, so he explained further. “The government had learnt about Cherine and Robert and they sent agents with new weapons using microwaves to kill them. We just happened to be close to the mansion when they attacked us. Before any of us could do anything to save them, a spaceship appeared and two human-like creatures landed by us, their spaceship crashing into the ground a bit further along. It seems they were very angry at Cherine being attacked and killed most of the agents. They then told the agents still alive that if anyone tries to harm Cherine again, they will destroy the entire planet. As I am certain you can appreciate, this caused widespread panic throughout all governments, but especially the British.” We could sense the sadness in him as he continued. “Cherine and Robert had been brain damaged and had reverted in age to a period before they had met. She saw the mansion and with wonder she entered the property and asked everyone, ‘Is this for me?!’ ”

6120

The government official who had come to oversee the execution, quickly contacted his office and was authorised to negotiate a settlement with us. He told her it is and we were contacted that same day and the title deeds were signed and handed over, showing a price of zero pounds. We now spend our time surrounded by agents from the British, but also the United Nations. They are terrified someone might try to harm Cherine…”

Candy moaned, “Pappou, how could you agree to that? When it is time for you to sell, whatever price you get will be pure capital gains and you will be taxed through the nose.” We grinned as he stared at our five year old economic graduate. He shook his head, still stunned by all he has experienced.

We asked why it is his Robert is the same age as Cherine and he explained that his Robert enjoyed changing to her age and did it often, as he felt it brings them closer. The government chose the time he is that young deliberately, hoping he would not be feeling as protective and so would not sense the attack from before. That last explanation stopped us from teasing Robbie about not wanting to feel closer to us.

“I should be returning to…our planet. I do not want Cherine - or the agents - to worry if they realise I am missing.” We explained about being in a different reality, so he can relax and stay as long as he wants. Alki is similar to Robbie in this, he could not relax, he needed to be with his family. So, we had a nice lunch with wine, some sweet cherries, a Greek coffee and Cherine followed him as he got in his car.

Robbie leant on the car window and explained, “We will meet you there as we have to heal Robert and Cherine.”

Grief filled his eyes. “It is not possible Robert, the damage to their brain is too severe, with a large number of cells ruptured and dead. The doctors are insisting we allow them to operate and remove the dead cells or else they could be dead within a few months.”

Robbie placed his hand on his shoulder. “Trust in us Alki, you will soon have your Cherine and Robert calling you pappou again. We will also teach them how to protect themselves, so that you never have to worry about them being harmed again.” Partly he was being honest, but what he was planning is leaving a splinter of his soul - and that of Vincent, so that they can call us if we are needed.

Seeing so many children arrive at her home made it difficult to calm down Cherine, for she thought we are having a party - so, of course, we had a wonderful party with her and Robert being manipulated so that they were as happy as they were capable of being. Seeing and sensing them like this was a bittersweet joy for all of us.

The healing began as soon as they fell asleep.

As anyone who knows us can guess, I was ruthlessly teased about my theories of them being damaged aliens who were trying to be the local Robert and Cherine. I did not mind, for I still sort of love my theory and wish it could come true (don’t do it Arthur).

Latreia asked, “Dad, are we going to search for the aliens who saved Cherine? With their spaceship probably damaged and Terrans trying to claim it for their own, they might need our help.”

Robbie smiled. “While we slept last night, they returned to their ship, had a shower, ate, slept and jumped to wherever it is they want to be. I think those who are thinking of claiming the ship are in for a rude shock - well, I hope so.”

“But, shouldn’t we try to contact them?”

“With the gifts they have - plus an advanced technology, I am certain they know of us and when they want, they can meet with us or the local Cherinians.”

I hope you enjoy reading this story of fantasy, adventure and love - and should some of it be true for our reality, I hope you will love our Cherine.
