Architecture watercolor sketch.
Today I finally got to color my sketch I did a few weeks ago. If someone makes you think that doing art is easy, believe me it’s not. It’s just looks so. In reality it takes a lot of preparation and right mood. I have to catch some time when no one is home or everyone is in bed. Otherwise there’s no point even starting to work with watercolors or any other paint. There are moments when I can’t leave the painting while the paint is wet.
So tonight I finally got in the mood of doing my watercolor art. It took between 15-30 minutes to paint and take photos. It’s already 1.45 AM 😱.
Ok, let’s get to the process steps and photos.
If you remember my ink sketch looked like this.
- Now I applied water to the sky area and began to color with blue, I purposefully skipped a few spots to make it look more like in real life.
- Next I colored the roof with terracotta/orange color. Where it’s more in the sun I colored more light.
- After the roof I colored the walls. I used a mixture of violet and ultramarine with a lot of water. It’s supposed to be gray, but I wanted it to be brighter than that.
- Then I worked on casting shadow from the roof. Again, I used a mixture of violet and ultramarine.
- Now we’re getting close to the end. I’m working on the tree in this step. I used brown and a bit of black.
Here is the final result.
I used this photo of the Grace church in St.Augustine, taken by me.
I hope you enjoyed the process photos.

Your stuff is beautiful. This time I will admit I was drawn in by the paint palettes!
Lovely!
