I honestly think the whole millennials blaming boomers and boomers saying millennials are lazy are just propaganda to distract us from the fact that the real problem is the obscenely wealthy screwing everyone else over. Same with the "No one wants to work" nonsense. In Canada and the USA at least the gap between median wage and cost of living is getting larger and larger. And a lot of the stuff that lead to that happened during the boomers time, but like, it's the fault of like 1% of them. The same 1% that are hoarding obscene wealth.
While there are def boomers that do not understand the job market and how much it sucks(you cannot just walk into a place and hand in a resume and get a job.). I know teenagers who were trying to get part time jobs at fast food and filled in dozens of applications just to never here anything back, and yet the help wanted sign was up all summer at many of these places. Make that make sense.
There's also a lack of understanding on either side. Millennial's see that the boomer could buy a house for 2 grand, but miss things like the average wage was 4 dollars, and the interest rate was incredibly high, and oh yeah, that house might not have indoor plumbing or central heating. ((Not real numbers. I do know my dad ounce worked for that little amount though)
I once saw something that pulled quotes from media over multiple decades going back to the 19th century where older people said "no one wants to work", so it seems like that's not a modern phenomenon after all. 😆 Also, I think it's even less than 1% who are hoarding all the wealth and they most certainly want us to continue being distracted with one another so we don't look their way for too long.
It's funny how that idea that if you can't get work you'll just end up at a fast food place has aged. In her teens my eldest applied to so many fast food places and couldn't get work. I think it was practically a viral meme at one point how everywhere had "help urgently wanted" signs, but never actually took anyone on despite people clamouring for the work. My daughter even went in for an interview at a local McDonald's and the manager there agreed to do the interview, but confessed he wasn't sure how she gotten the interview because there wasn't actually a vacancy. He even told her she interviewed well, so he'd have loved to have given her work if there was any. It makes absolutely no sense.
I saw something simliar but it was going through the ages of finding the older generation complaining about the younger one. With references that go back to stuff from ancient Rome. It made me chuckle.
And yeah, the job market now is a disaster. Compare that to when my grandpa got his first job in Canada he walked into a welding shop, pointed to the help wanted sign and then they just had him show his competence. Which was so good they hired him despite the fact that at the time he knew about 15 words of English.
