The Promises Made by OLA and UBER

When OLA and UBER came to India a lot of promises were made in regards to the earnings that the Drivers will be getting and how this will be a game-changer as to how people will travel in the future but truth be told that is not what happened here in India. Now I am saying INDIA but I can only speculate about my own STATE and how these Taxis are being operated around here.

A couple of days ago I ordered an OLA as I had a guest with me who wanted to sightsee a little. When I booked an OLA the driver immediately called me and said that since my Drop Location was way out of town he will be canceling the ride as he will not get Fares from there. But before he could cancel my Ride he told me that he was willing to go to that same Location but OFFLINE which basically means he will switch off his OLA App and come pick me up from the same. So I bargained the Rates and the Driver did pick us up from the Hotel and we were on the way.

Upon further inquiry, the Driver talked about their issues with these Driving Apps. Yes according to them they do receive a lot more Customers thanks to these Driving Apps but the amount the App charges from the Drivers is a lot. According to the Driver, the App takes about 20-50 percent as commission and Service TAx from the Total Fare, which means if the Total Fare is 100 INR the driver only gets around 50-80 INR depending upon the Journey Time and Distance. This is something I never knew so most of the Drivers just take the Customers from the App but complete the Journey OFFLINE which is good for the Drivers and we as Customers also get a slight discount on these Offers.

Now when I came back home I had this thought as to why these Apps need to Charge such huge Fees from the Drivers as I cant seem to comprehend the whole 20-50 percent Charges. I am really not well versed as to the Costs of these Apps but I feel like 10 percent should have been enough to keep things running and profitable for them. Just my OPINION.
