Introducing My Plants | Gymnocalycium Denudatu Jansuba

Hi, I am Arveno from Surabaya city. In this content i want to share what i know about cactus, i dont know where the place that i need to write and since i am away from this blogging more than a month, i am confused with the update and where the community is thats why i am writing in here. Hopefully i am not broke any rules and hoping i can help other people understanding my cactus hobby recently.

I will introduce you guys to my Mr. Big Cactus called Gymnocalycium Denudatum Jansuba. This cactus is really unique and easy to care. This cactus origin is from Brazil. Like others Gymno species, they are easy to care. This cactus having characteristic with bulky body and also having spine that clinging to their body and the shape and form is like spider that creeping around into its own body. Also many people give its nickname spider cactus based on the shape of the spine.

Okay let make it sharp by taking the photo using DSLR and not from phone. In this picture we can see that in the middle of the spine, there is white fur that called aerolas. And usually in this Areolas, this cactus can generates flower. Since i am buying this cactus that already this big. I just need to be patient waiting next flowering season since right now its already to late, and this cactus still adapting in my place. Its flower usually beautiful. Errr i mean most of the cactus flower are beautiful. Thats why i need to be patient and taking care this plant with all of my heart just to make all my cactus can generate flower.

What i experienced and knowing, this cactus form and shape is the lead to its healthy. The colour of the body should be bright green like healthy leaf, and also the spine is strong and dense. If the spines likes sluggish, she really need attention. Either need more water, or need more sunlight. And the worse case they need some air inside its roots. The other ways to make sure this cactus is healthy is by pressing the body gently. If its hard then the sunlight is already enough, the hot is already enough. But, if they are stuck then need to be repotting and trimming their roots.
Trimming their roots will make refreshment for the cactus and make the energy focused into growing back their roots. And with that they can grow again.

And we need to beware of Mealy Bugs, Spider Mites for the insect pest. They are really annoying really annoying. Sometimes they can hiding inside the roots that can suck the cactus dry. And what makes super annoying?? They are sucking very very slowly everyday. And when we found out, sometimes its already too late. Same also with spider mites. But, its very rare cases in Southeast Asia especially in Indonesia. Maybe because the humidity is kinda high. And since the humid is tendency to high, my arch enemy is fungi and bacteria. Both of them can join together to blown my cactus inside and make it melts. The fungi usually infecting the roots to be rotten then if the cactus still strong the bacteria comes in and destroy the scion and make all inside cactus melted down and dead. So, what need to be a real attention is make sure the soil is porous, having good drainage, and also give them regularly with insecticide,fungicide,and bactericide.

So,this is one of cactus that i recommended even for the beginner. Easy to care, considered to have very rapid growth, and easy to get.
