Last year, I rescued a venus flytrap from a grocery store.

This is not the first time I owned a venus flytrap. I have kept a few alive for years outdoors, with proper natural nutrition and winter dormancy. Until last spring, they did not come back.

Traditionally I kept them in an outdoors greenhouse to protect from elements, last winter I have decided to go the "natural" way. No extra protection, and that did it. The winter in Canada is just too cold for it.

From all the research online, venus flytrap needs to be outdoors, otherwise it would not survive past 2 years.

I have kept this plant under strong growlight for a year now, it may have one more year left, or even longer. This is like a science experiment to see if a venus flytrap could survive and thrive under artificial condition, without insects, and rely solely on strong growlight and distilled water.

So far it is looking good. I had to repot it. The pictures are 1 year apart.

If you have done the similar experiment, please share your results.
