You must have heard of this phrase "School is scam" This is one of the most popular slangs amongst hustling youths in Nigeria.

In Nigeria, so many youth have the believe that school isn’t the first step to success or the path that leads to being successful. They see school as a waste of time without looking out for it benefits. They would say, instead of wasting years sitting in the lecture room they would rather use it to pursue personal goals on what they refer to be success and education doesn’t define ones ability to be successful. Since there are different ways to make money and even easier ways to do it, they do not know that the only key factor to sustain or maintain success is having knowledge.

School/education doesn’t deprived one from being successful rather, it’s helps to elevate, shapes a persons mindset and knowledge to having a better sense of belonging in the aspects of being successful and also helps to manage success like I said earlier.

Being successful as to do with accomplishing of your personal goals and dreams. And to achieve these goals one has to work for it, go through processes on how to accomplish them. You can rate one to being successful by what they have, that is, their physical possessions, fancy cars, properties they own and so on. While some persons could rate success to be having flying colors in an examination, or graduating with good results.

Being educated plays a big role in ones life and in the society. It helps to gain a better reputation in the society. Acquiring knowledge and applying it wisely helps to contribute to the society, because what you have is what you can give or offer to your society. In other words, knowledge can be passed on and by so doing there would be a better society. This is to show that education isn’t for only personal development but also tend to affect the economy.

If the mentality of some youths in a particular society is all about easy and quick ways to make money, you tend to discover that the economical status of that society is low because everyone has the same mindset. But if a society is filled with educated individuals with integrity, people who thinks outside the box not just on how to make money because everyone needs money, but how to ensure that there is a positive impact on society, check out the society and you discover their level of development.

For example, I was in a Bank sometime last year trying to do some personal transactions, I was filling my form and I saw this guy who just entered the bank, looking all fresh and nice, wearing one of the finest designers, well I could tell he was rich. He walked up to me and I thought he wanted to use my pen because they do that a lot in Banks. Then he asked me to help him fill his form and I did. He was grateful and walked away. I looked at him as he left and in my mind I thought about how incomplete he was without education. Well he doesn’t look bothered about it so life goes on.

Not just that, currently there are teenagers roaming around the society trying to imitating the youths on illegal means and businesses to make money, because they feel that’s the shortest way to success ignoring education and they fail to understand, acknowledge the importance of education and the consequences of them ignoring education won’t be for now but for the future.

The process of attaining education or being educated isn’t a must that one has to seat in a classroom setting. There are different means to gain knowledge even in the comfort of our homes because some persons could have been denied access to education and would feel they’re off the age to be in the class room, that it’s a waste of time and it’s of no use for them now and I wouldn’t blame such persons.

A man could have everything he wished for to being successful, but if he’s not educated he will look so incomplete. The benefits of education doesn’t only have to do with managing wealth, but also help one blend and fit into the society.

Thank you for reading through.

See you in my next post🤗

I agree with you but only up to a certain extent. For example how many workers in the bank you speak of studied banking and finance? They went to school but are they properly educated? How many graduates learnt exactly what they need to succeed in school?? Education is only important in Nigeria when you don’t have it.

Yea I get your point and I agree with you. And at least they're educated and they could work in the bank. My point was directed at the youths who feels and neglect education without knowing the importance not a bank worker.
