My Actifit Report Card: October 10 2026

What I have observed about people is that they often alter the level of respect they show based on the other person's status or standing. While this behavior might not yield any tangible benefit for them, it certainly changes the impression others form of them.

This approach can be advantageous for those seeking assistance or expecting something in return.

I mention this because you have likely noticed—in news reports, for instance—how the terminology changes depending on the person: an ordinary individual is referred to as a "dead body" (shavam), someone with social standing is called a "mortal remains" (parthiva deham), and a nationally renowned figure is described as a "physical body" (bhautika kayam).

Just look at the variety of terms used for the same event. This illustrates that the respect accorded to a person at the end of their life depends on their social prestige. It is not just this specific instance; the same pattern applies to everything, even if we do not consciously notice it.

Whether we admit it or not, we subconsciously decide how to speak to someone based on their status. Conversely, when speaking to an ordinary person, we might speak harshly or angrily without a second thought. It is not the other person who has changed in this scenario, but rather our own perspective.

A crucial distinction to make here is the difference between admiring someone and fearing them—though, at times, the two can appear similar. For example, we speak respectfully to a superior at work because speaking carelessly could jeopardize our job.

Some people might speak recklessly, saying whatever comes to mind. Others, however, are mindful of their words because they understand the potential consequences. There are also those who speak pleasantly in the hope of gaining recognition, and things often work out well for them.

I am not saying that telling the truth is bad—you certainly can—but only up to the point where it doesn't cause you harm. Since today was a holiday, I focused on resting all day; after a brief walk following dinner, I drifted back to sleep.
