Dracula the Untold Story was released in 2014 and tells the story of how Vlad the Impaler became famous Count Dracula. I saw this movie the year it was released but at that time I only enjoyed it as a spectator, now that I have a little more criticism, just a little, I decided to see it again and to my surprise it is not so bad today. However, I see myself in the guilty obligation to say that not everything is right in this movie, I say guilty obligation because despite the bad things it has I like it. Today in 2021 let's see how the film of the origins of Count Dracula has aged.

Let's see the story that the film wants to tell us. Vlad Tepes, prince of Romania, refuses Mehmed II's request: to hand over a thousand children to become Jenizaros. Vlad's refusal turns into a war in which he has everything to lose. In search of power the prince goes to a mountain where it is believed that inhabits a diabolical creature, Vlad makes a pact with this being where he will be granted the power he possesses but only for three days, the only condition is that if he drinks some human blood he will become this diabolical being for eternity.

The film begins by telling us, using Vlad's son as the narrator, a bit about the prince's past and giving us the introduction to the story of how the world would know him after that event. After that short introduction we focus with Vlad and his band of warriors on a river finding a helmet of a Turkish soldier, the uphill slope of the river leads to a mountain that has the name of broken tooth, I imagine it is called that way because it has that shape. Vlad decides to go with two soldiers to the mountain to see if the Turks are taking refuge there and sends the rest to the castle to be alert, one of the things that will be most surprising in how quickly they reach the mountain. From the arrival of Vlad to the mountain a series of temporary errors begin, that in its time I did not notice them but seeing it now they are very simple to notice at a glance.

After arriving at the mountain, Vlad and the two soldiers with whom he went to inspect, come across a cave, they enter to see if they find the Turkish soldiers but they run into something else. In a matter of moments something attacks them and Vlad is the only one who survives of the three, when he sees the creature that lives there he immediately returns to his castle where he is given some information about what he saw in that place.

The Easter festivities, one day after his encounter with the creature, are interrupted by Turkish soldiers who bring Vlad a message from the Sultan: a thousand children to be turned into Jinnzaros. Of course Vlad looks for other alternatives and after resorting to the classic royal favors and these were of no avail, our soon to be Count Dracula declares war by assassinating a small group of soldiers who would make sure the prince would deliver his son to the Turkish army. Clearly desperate and with no viable option Vlad, runs serf escaping from his predator, to the mountain where the evil creature dwells to ask for his strength, of course a sane person would do such a thing but as he has to become Dracula this had to happen.

With a little mystical talk, Vlad gets the classic skills that everyone already knows of a vampire and literally flies to his castle that surprisingly was not demolished after many but many cannon shots he received, and here we have the first battle of the film, Vlad vs a large part of the Turkish army, obviously wins our protagonist who asks his warriors not to ask him what happened that night. Vlad thinks it is a bad idea to stay in place so they decide to leave for the monastery of Cosia, a castle on a mountain, all along the way to get to the monastery many things happen, Vlad's wife discovers what he did to protect his people, a kind of minion who was eagerly awaiting the arrival of someone to take the power of the creature in the cave tempts Vlad to drink human blood, the people decide to move forward leaving Vlad behind because it is still daylight and the part that hurt me the most to see, Dimitru dies, my favorite character in the whole movie.

After a long and painful journey to the monastery the truth about the prince is discovered, a monk scriptwriter, I call him so because they use it for convenience of the script, exposes Vlad to everyone making the sunlight hit him in the face and burning him. This makes the prince angry and he starts telling everyone the truth that no one admits, that they are alive thanks to him. The Turkish army knows where they were headed and another large part of the army arrives at the monastery.

While Vlad was fighting with the army, a group of Turks managed to enter the monastery, killing all the people, kidnapping the prince's son and indirectly throwing his wife from the highest part of the castle. Incredibly Vlad's wife survives the fall and she convinces him to drink her blood. Yes I know it is practically impossible for anyone to survive a fall of that height, considering the monastery is situated on a mountain, but we see the positive point; not who am I kidding, script conveniences.

And now yes, the final battle of Vlad now turned into Dracula against Mehmed II and all his army, Draculaarrives to the battlefield accompanied by other people to whom he gave to drink his blood to facilitate his work a little more, the fight between Mehmed II and Dracula is a little out of place, I say this because of the elements that are used. If Dracula was the only person to come out of the cave alive, how do the Turks know that silver is a weakness for Dracula and that a stake through the heart would kill him if it was just the first time he saw something like that.

Some continuity errors that I notice in the film when I watch it make my expectations about the ending not surprise me much, although I already know how it ends and everything that happens in the story of how Dracula was born does not generate in me interest in seeing the outcome because it probably has something that acted in favor of the protagonist without justification; and it is not that I think the film is bad, on the contrary, I like it, but let's say that its spark is fading as the film progresses.

The movie is not bad but it has noticeable continuity errors, its visual effects are good and it has a moderate pace, at no time do you feel that the movie gets slow or that the plot gets bogged down with nonsense, as it is an origins movie every single thing on screen is usually useful for the plot. See it if you like this kind of stories and if not better see something else that interests you more.

Drácula la Historia Jamás Contada se estrenó en 2014 y nos cuenta la historia de cómo Vlad el Empalador se convirtió en famoso Conde Drácula. Esta película la vi en año en que se estrenó pero para ese entonces solo la disfrute como un espectador más, ahora que cuento con un poco más de crítica, solo un poco, decidí volver a verla y para mi sorpresa no está tan mal a día. Sin embargo, me veo en la culposa obligación de decir que no todo está bien en esta película, digo culposa obligación porque a pesar de las cosas malas que tiene me gusta. Hoy en 2021 veamos que cómo ha envejecido la película de los orígenes del Conde Drácula.

Veamos la historia que la película nos quiere contar. Vlad Tepes, príncipe de Rumanía, se niega ante la petición de Mehmed II: entregar a mil niños para convertirlos en Jenízaros. Esta negación por parte de Vlad se convierte en una guerra en la cual tiene todas las de perder. En busca de poder el príncipe va a una montaña donde se cree que habita una criatura diabólica, Vlad hace un pacto con dicho ser donde se le concederán el poder que este posee pero solo por tres días, la única condición es que si bebe un poco de sangre humana se convertirá en ese ser diabólico por la eternidad.

La película empieza contándonos, usando al hijo de Vlad como narrador, un poco sobre el pasado del príncipe y dándonos la introducción a la historia de cómo lo conocería el mundo después de aquel acontecimiento. Luego de esa corta introducción nos centramos con Vlad y su cuadrilla de guerreros en un río encontrando un casco de un soldado turco, la cuesta arriba del río lleva a una montaña que tiene por nombre muela rota, me imagino que se llama así porque tiene dicha forma. Vlad decide ir con dos soldados a montaña para ver su los turcos se están refugiando ahí y manda al resto al castillo para estar alertas, una de las cosas que más irán sorprendiendo en lo rápido que llegan a la montaña. A partir de la llegada de Vlad a la montaña tienen inicio una serie de errores temporales, que en su tiempo no me percate de ellos pero viéndola ahora son muy sencillos de notar a simple vista.

Luego de llegar a la montaña, Vlad y los dos soldados con los que fue a la inspeccionar, se encuentran con una cueva, entran para ver si encuentran a los soldados turcos pero se topan con otra cosa. En cuestión de unos instantes algo los ataca y Vlad es el único que sobrevive de los tres, al ver a la criatura que habita allí de inmediato vuelve a su castillo donde le dan un poco de información acerca de lo que vio en ese lugar.

Las fiestas de la Pascua, un día después de su encuentro con la criatura, es interrumpida por soldados turcos que le llevan un mensaje a Vlad de parte del Sultán: mil niños para convertirlos en Jenízaros. Por supuesto que Vlad busca otras alternativas y luego de recurrir a los clásicos favores reales y que estos no sirvieran, nuestro pronto Conde Drácula declara la guerra al asesinar a un pequeño grupo de soldados que se asegurarían de que el príncipe entregará a su hijo al ejército turco. Claramente desesperado y sin ninguna opción viable Vlad, corre siervo escapando de su depredador, hacia la montaña donde habita la criatura diabólica a pedir su fuerza, por supuesto que una persona en su sano juicio haría tal cosa pero como tiene que convertirse en Drácula esto tenía que pasar.

Con un poco de charla mística, Vlad obtiene las clásicas habilidades que ya todos conocen de un vampiro y, literalmente, va volando hacia su castillo que sorprendente no fue derriba luego muchos pero muchos cañonazos que recibía, y aquí tenemos la primera batalla de la película, Vlad vs una gran parte del ejército turco, obviamente gana nuestro protagonista el cual les pide sus guerreros que no le pregunten lo que paso esa noche. Vlad cree que es mala idea quedarse en lugar lo por que deciden partir hacia el monasterio de Cosia, un castillo en una montaña, durante todo el trayecto de llegar hacia el monasterio suceden muchas cosas, la esposa de Vlad descubre lo que hizo para proteger a su pueblo, una especie de súbdito que esperaba con ansias la llegada de alguien que tomara el poder de la criatura de la cueva tienta a Vlad de beber sangre humana, el pueblo decide avanzar dejando a Vlad atrás porque todavía es de día y la parte que más me dolió ver, muere Dimitru, mi personaje favorito en toda la película.

Después de un largo y doloroso camino hacia el monasterio se descubre la verdad sobre el príncipe, un monje guionista, lo llamo así porque lo utilizan para conveniencia del guion, expone a Vlad ante todos haciendo que la luz del Sol le dé en la cara y quemándolo. Esto ocasiona que el príncipe se enoje y comience a decirles a todos la verdad que nadie admite, que están vivos gracias a él. El ejército turco sabe hacia dónde se dirigían y llegan otra gran parte del ejército al monasterio.

Mientras que Vlad combatía con el ejército, un grupo de turcos consiguió entrar en el monasterio, asesinando a todas las personas, secuestrando al hijo del príncipe e indirectamente lanzando a su esposa desde la parte más alta del castillo. Increíblemente la esposa de Vlad sobrevive a la caída y ella lo convence para que beba su sangre. Sí sé que es prácticamente imposible que alguien sobreviva a una caída de esa altura, teniendo en cuenta que el monasterio se sitúa en una montaña, pero vemos el punto positivo; no a quién engaño, conveniencias de guion.

Y ahora sí, la batalla final de Vlad ahora convertido en Drácula contra Mehmed II y todo su ejército, Drácula llega al campo de batalla acompañado de otras personas a la que le dio de beber su sangre para facilitar un poco más su trabajo, la pelea entre Mehmed II y Drácula es un poco fuera de lugar, digo esto por los elementos que se usan. Si Drácula fue la única persona en salir con vida de la cueva, cómo los turcos saben que la plata es una debilidad para Drácula y que una estaca en el corazón lo mataría si apenas era primera vez que veía algo como eso.

Algunos errores de continuidad que noto en la película cuando la veo hacen que mis expectativas sobre el final no me sorprendan mucho, aunque ya sé cómo termina y todo lo que transcurre en la historia de cómo nació Drácula no genera en mí interés por ver el desenlace porque muy probablemente tenga algo que actué a favor del protagonista sin justificación; y no es que me la película me parezca mala, al contrario, me gusta, pero digamos que su chispa se va apagando conforme avanza la película.

La película no es mala pero tiene errores de continuidad notables, sus efectos visuales son buenos y tiene un ritmo moderado, en ningún momento sientes que la película se vuelve lenta o que la trama se estanca con tonterías, como es una película de orígenes cada cosa en pantalla suele ser útil para la trama. Véanla si es que este tipo de historias les gusta y si no mejor vean otra cosa que les interese más.
