Imagine just for a moment that in 1818 vampires existed and that in their power was a part of a great nation, well that's what little Lincoln had to live in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The film places a president of the United States as a vampire hunter during part of his life and had to deal with carrying over his men a country and a great secret that could end his own family. Here is a review of the film nine years later.

It all starts with a small part showing us how little Lincoln's life was and how his mother died at the hands of Jack Barts, a transition later we have Lincoln in a bar with a "strange" man next to him telling him that a man becomes intoxicated when he is about to do something stupid when a few moments before we heard how Abraham promised his father that he would not do anything stupid. The strange man slaps our future president and he drops a gun from his pocket, yes he is going to do something stupid.

Moments later we have Lincoln on the pier where his family works when he was a child, what was he going to do on the pier, kill the man who snatched his mother, to the surprise of the protagonist the gunpowder does not affect Jack Barts, target to kill, and for script reasons he has a little time to escape, hide and reload the gun with a bullet and shoots right in the eye to Barts. As the bullet was not silver it does not affect Barts and he gives Lincoln the beating of his life but fortunately the "stranger" from the bar follows Lincoln to the dock and saves him from being killed.

The next morning, and very beaten, Lincoln wakes up in a house but he knows who the owner is, goes downstairs and meets the "stranger" the name of that character is: Henry Sturges. After a little explanation about who he was and what Abraham had seen the night before, Henry, gives Lincoln the opportunity to hunt vampires but above all what he wanted most in life, to kill Jack Barts. After sequences of training and choosing the weapon that was most useful to him, we have a little explanation about how vampires came to America and who their leader was, a vampire who has been alive for thousands of years and who everyone knows as Adam.

Ready to go out to hunt vampires, Lincoln arrives in Springfield town where he will meet Mary Todd who will be his wife in the future. The most awaited moment for Lincoln arrives and it is time to hunt his first vampire, following Henry's orders, Lincoln goes after Aaron Stibel Junior and for the first time killing a vampire he did not do so bad. Days after his first hunt he is invited along with Joshua Speed, who we'll just call Speed, to a dance where he meets Mary again, a transition later and we have our protagonist killing vampires; to be a very short part I like it enough, the effects are good but that does not mean it has its little things to criticize.

We got to one of the most revealing parts for me when I gave another view now this year and is that Falc... Anthony Mackie makes an appearance in the film, I know it is not relevant why I give relevance to this point but at least for me it is because when I saw the movie for the first time I had no idea who he was, even after seeing his participation in Marvel as Falcon I did not remember that he acted in this movie. I know this fact is not very important but I wanted to share it with you.

After Abraham was in jail with Will Johnson (Anthony Mackie) for some inconveniences of Will, we witness the best and less realistic sequence of fights in the entire film, the revenge of Abraham against Barts seriously I tell you, you just have to see it is a little difficult to describe a part and would have more value if you see it with your own eyes. The death of Jack Barts would bring nothing comfort to Abraham but the opposite, with his death it would be discovered that Henry, Abraham's friend and mentor, is also a vampire; Abraham angrily goes in search of Henry and attacks him, you know revealing moment of friendship with deception, he tells him his story and Lincoln decides to go their separate ways.

After the feud we go through many things, Abraham and Mary get married, Will is kidnapped by Adam and Abraham goes to save him giving us another spectacular fight sequence with a bit of backstory about Adam and what he wants, political moments of Abraham trying to abolish slavery and fighting for his nation and finally the transition to an old Abraham Lincoln with his trademark beard and president of the United States. But as his friend Henry once warned him, having a family would make him very vulnerable and it is at this point that the president loses something he truly loves: his son. Heartbroken and losing the civil war against the southern part of the country, he decides to come up with a plan that would define the future of his nation.

I don't know how Lincoln could be told that possibly the southern soldiers are vampires and that he should use silver bullets in case it was true, anyway, the important thing is that his plan was to bring silver bullets to his army that was at war against the southern vampire soldiers and how he would do this, through a train, the brilliant thing about the plan was that the train was not carrying the silver but a large group of people that I followed to another road and this is how the deceived vampires would attack the decoy train and lose time and the war.

The movie is entertaining, has good effects when it comes to the fights on the screen, as I said if you saw the sequence of the horses you will know what I mean; it has an excellent rhythm although in some parts it gets a little heavy but the good thing is that they are short parts and that they are very separated from each other. On some occasions I managed to notice continuity errors that do not affect the moment of watching the film but if you manage to detail them, they make the scenes lose weight. Plotwise it also has its criticisms, one of them is how they paint the antagonist and end up killing him a little easy in my opinion. It is not a bad movie, it is enjoyable and somewhat fun to watch. I hope you can see it and enjoy it. Until further notice.

Imagínense solo un momento que en 1818 existieran los vampiros y que en su poder este una parte de una gran nación, bueno eso fue lo que tuvo que vivir el pequeño Lincoln en Abraham Lincoln: Cazador de Vampiros. La película que coloca a un presidente de los Estados Unidos como un cazador de vampiros durante una parte de su vida y que tenía que lidiar con llevar sobre sus hombres un país y gran secreto que podía acabar con su propia familia. Aquí una reseña la película nueve años después.

Todo comienza con una pequeña parte mostrándonos como era la vida del pequeño** Lincoln** y cómo murió su madre a manos de Jack Barts, una transición después tenemos a Lincoln en un bar con un “extraño” hombre al lado diciéndole que un hombre llega a estar embriagado cuando está a punto de cometer una estupidez cuando unos momentos atrás escuchábamos como Abraham le prometía a su padre que no haría nada estúpido. El extraño hombre le da un palmada a nuestro futuro presidente y a este se le cae un arma del bolsillo, sí va a cometer una estupidez.

Momentos después tenemos a Lincoln en el muelle donde trabaja su familia cuando él era niño, qué iba hacer en el muelle, asesinar al hombre que le arrebato a su madre, para sorpresa del protagonista la pólvora no afecta a Jack Barts, objetivo a asesinar, y por motivos de guion le un poco de tiempo para escapar, esconderse y recargar el arma con una bala y dispara justo en el ojo a Barts. Como la bala no era de plata no afecta a Barts y este la paliza de su vida a Lincoln pero afortunadamente el “extraño” del bar siguió a Lincoln hasta el muelle y lo salva para que no lo maten.

A la mañana siguiente, y muy golpeado, Lincoln despierta en una casa pero sabe quién es el dueño, baja las escaleras y se encuentra con el “extraño” el nombre de dicho personaje es: Henry Sturges. Después de una pequeña explicación sobre quién era y qué era lo Abraham había visto la noche anterior, Henry, le da la oportunidad a Lincoln de cazar vampiros pero sobre todo lo que más quería en la vida, asesinar a Jack Barts. Luego de secuencias de entrenamientos y de escoger el arma que le era más útil, tenemos una pequeña explicación sobre cómo llegaron los vampiros a Estados Unidos y quién era su líder, un vampiro que lleva vivo miles de años y que todos conocen como Adam.

Listo para salir a cazar vampiros, Lincoln, llega a Springfield pueblo donde conocerá a Mary Todd quien será su esposa un futuro. Llega el momento más esperado por Lincoln y es momento para cazar su primer vampiro, siguiendo las órdenes de Henry, Lincoln va tras Aaron Stibel Junior y para ser la primera vez asesinando a un vampiro no le fue tan mal. Días después de su primera cacería es invitado junto a Joshua Speed, a quien llamaremos solo Speed, a un baile donde se vuelve a encontrar con Mary, una transición después y tenemos a nuestro protagonista asesinando vampiros; para ser una parte muy corta me gusta bastaste, los efectos son buenos pero eso no quiere decir que tenga sus cositas para criticar.

Llegamos unas de las partes más reveladores para mí cuando di otro visto ahora en este año y es que Falc… Anthony Mackie hace acto de presencia en la película, sé que no es relevante el motivo por que le doy relevancia a este punto pero es que por lo menos para mí lo tiene porque cuando vi la película por primera vez no tenía ni idea quién era él, incluso, aun después de ver su participación en Marvel como Falcón no me acordaba que actuaba en esta película. Sé que este dato no es muy importante pero lo quería compartir con ustedes.

Después de que Abraham estuviera en la cárcel junto a Will Johnson (Anthony Mackie) por unos inconvenientes de Will, presenciamos la mejor y menos realista secuencia de peleas en toda la película, la revancha de Abraham contra Barts en serio se los digo, solo tiene que verla me es un poco difícil describir una parte y tendría más valor si la ven con sus propios ojos. La muerte de Jack Barts no traería nada consuelo a Abraham sino lo contrario, con su muerte se descubriría que Henry, el amigo y mentor de Abraham, también es un vampiro; Abraham enojado va en busca de Henry y lo ataca, ya saben momento revelador de amistad con engaño, este le cuenta su historia y Lincoln decide tomar caminos separados.

Luego de la disputa pasamos por muchas cosas, Abraham y Mary se casan, Will es secuestrado por Adam y Abraham lo va a salvar entregándonos otra secuencia de pelea espectacular con un poco de historia sobre Adam y lo que quiere, momentos políticos de Abraham tratando de abolir la esclavitud y peleando por su nación y finalmente la transición para dar paso a un Abraham Lincoln viejo con su barba característica y presidente de los Estados Unidos. Pero como alguna vez se lo advirtió su amigo Henry, tener familia lo iba volver muy vulnerable y es en este punto cuando el presidente pierde algo que realmente ama: a su hijo. Desconsolado y perdiendo la guerra civil contra la parte sur del país decide idear un plan que definiría en el futuro de su nación.

No sé cómo se le pudo a Lincoln que posiblemente los soldados del sur sean vampiros y que debería usar balas de plata por si fuese cierto, en fin, lo importante es que su plan era llevar balas de plata a su ejército que estaba en guerra contra los soldados vampiros del sur y cómo haría esto, a través de un tren, lo brillante del plan era que el tren no llevaba la plata sino un gran grupo de personas que seguí a otro camino y así es como los vampiros engañados atacarían el señuelo del tren y perderían tiempo y la guerra.

La película es entretenida, cuenta con buenos efectos a la hora de las peleas en la pantalla, como les digo si vieron la secuencia de los caballos ya sabrán a lo que me refiero; cuenta con un excelente ritmo aunque en algunas partes si se hace un poco pesada pero lo bueno es que son partes cortas y que están muy separadas una de la otra. En algunas ocasiones logre darme cuenta de errores de continuidad que no afectan al momento de ver la película pero que si logras de detallarlos hacen que las escenas pierdan peso. Argumentalmente también tiene sus cosas criticables, una de ellas es como pintan al antagonista y terminan asesinándolo un poco fácil a mi parecer. No es una mala película, es disfrutable y de cierto modo divertida de ver. Espero que la puedan ver y que las disfruten. Hasta nuevo aviso.
