AteXoras 🍻 Pub Gathering - How to help HIVE?

avatar
(Edited)
Authored by @forykw

This Pub will open weekly on the Pubs Community with the purpose of acting as a place to meet, socialize, exchange information, get free stuff, you get the idea for HIVE's sake!

We also have a Live Scratch Paper where you can find all the current up-to-date information about this project.

(made by @swayzilla and donated via NFT Showroom)

🥇 ❗THE GATHERING❗

The topic of this gathering is about simpler stuff... how to help HIVE?

The impact of an image

This week we found a great example of how free marketing on #HIVE can work beautifully given the right perspective is provided. A nice example of such is this Tweet (give it some attention if you are on Twitter), where a simple image exhibits such a nice diversity and overall status of this blockchain.

image.png
(source)

If you are good at this with images, we would like to invite you to draw one about the Pub, and then we will expose it for a couple of gatherings with the usual 10% rewards. If you have an #NFT of is, even better. Send one to the Pub account and let us know you would like to be featured.

We have currently two Pub face images that have been helping the Pub for several gatherings. And we are now looking for the 3rd one... once we reach the 10th face, we are going to promote a special event to choose the best of them.

There is no deadline as of yet, but we would really encourage you to submit one if you can. Let us know if you have any questions. Any of the existing participants are eligible to submit new ones if they wish to, but we would like to think new users would also have a chance too.

Hive DApps Tier List Maker

Using the TierMaker online tool, @manniman collected a list of dapps and created this template where you can easily rank dapps for showing off to others.

image.png

Give it a go and share it at this gathering for some extra attention by @forkyishere on Twitter. You might even not know all the dapps there, which itself presents as a nice opportunity for exploring in case you are a curious one.

Pub DLUX "shared witness experiment" week retrospection

The only one that currently is in it, is @new.things with an amount of 153.693 DLUX that got locked out as DLUXG. And @forykw conceded 100% rewards (to simplify with his 1 DLUXG). The current ownership is as follow:

DLUXG Stake Ownership - (rewards%)
@new.things - 153.693 DLUX (100%)
@forykw - 1 DLUX (0%)

If you wish to read about what this is about, check the previous gathering where it starts by "Pub Admins DLUX.io Witness (the beginning)". During this week, the payment of rewards was:

"{"to":"new.things","amount":22952,"memo":"100% rewards payment"}"
"{"to":"new.things","amount":31259,"memo":"100% rewards payment"}"
"{"to":"new.things","amount":39925,"memo":"100% rewards payment"}"
"{"to":"new.things","amount":35485,"memo":"100% rewards payment"}"

So a total of 129.621 DLUX, which basically gave @new.things all his investment back in less than a week! =) lucky no one sent any amounts. If you do, please tag @forykw because there is not many days of history yet on DLUX, and we need to confirm the transactions are for that purpose (otherwise you can only do it via the HIVE chain).

More updates on this subject soon...

🎁 Active #Giveaways

This section will be used to register the status of running giveaways initiatives.

  • The every gathering #NFT 🎈 giveaway (we donate one on every Pub gathering):

@maccazftw and @new.aaron no Tofu left in the super market! time to pull up stumps and head to the bush? !LOL
@crackyup how's the weather way up north?
@jessgwnne how's your new place?
@vidus4evz have you finished painting?
@lukeeeyy tells about TThugs.
@mateyevans what are u up to this weekend, got any new crypto, there seems to be some bargains around?

Thanks to forykw and the pub for the DLUX rewards. I am happy for u to hang on to them until the end of the experiment if its easier. A one week return payback is fantastic but I thinking your investment not including your time should have been 95% to the pub and about 5% for my 153DLUX

So do you need to set up a node to be a witness and mine Hive by verifying transitions? and
do you need more than a $1000 laptop and a hand full of hive power to make it worth while?

As long as the bottleshop has something funky and refreshing like these badboys I found last weekend, I won't run for the hills just yet !LOLZ

On more of a crypto related note, I see that the Aussie Open has been doing some pretty interesting things.

Through Decentraland, they've created a metaverse you can join. Pretty much a virtual reality where you can roam around the stadiums, interact with other fans, players, and what not. Personally I'm more into reality, but hey I reckon that's pretty bloody epic, especially in a covid stricken world.

Also they were selling unique NFTs linked to a small 19cm x 19cm plot on the court. If winners are hit on that spot I believe NFT metadata will be updated in real time to reflect the current match situation. Also if a championship point happens to land on your spot, you can claim a championship point tennis ball NFT. Bit of a lottery, but pretty interesting nonetheless.

Believe its the first major sport event to adopt NFTs and create a Metaverse.

Interesting times indeed, Decentral coin might be worth looking at with todays price drops as well as some more hive too. Just cracked back under 23 mins at parkrun, with a 22:54. !LOL !hivebits

Hivebits blends Hive and Bitcoin. Mine HBIT simply with: !hivebits

@new.things(2/1) You mined .9 HBIT and the user you replied to received .1 HBIT on your behalf. You can receive 100% of the HBIT by replying to one of your own posts or comments. Or, support Hivebits by using the official HBIT mine | my wallet | market | tools | connect | <><

Another one for me to look at.

It's pretty easy...just reply using ! hivebits (no space) and you'll earn HBIT. :)

I had a read now... but to be honest I don't see any long-term difference from the love shares initiative.

You might not be telling all the story but I would have thought that if just for the experiment, then you could have incentivized the use of Love Shares. My opinion ok?

Another thing I would like to ask the reason is, why rewarding who makes the comment more? Is the intention to do a distribution? If so, you can do that via contract on Hive-Engine already... https://tribaldex.com/distribution (costs 100 BEE).

Don't interpret this as a negative critic =) it's my view. Would expect people to do the same about me.

Cheers with a !BEER

Hi @forykw, I love that you're questioning things...no offense here. :) I must say, I don't entirely understand what you're writing, but I'll try to respond as best I can.

You suggest at a difference or non-difference with LUV. Here's the difference as succinctly as I can put it:

LUV is about giving or sharing love with others...giving away as an undeserved gift.

HBIT is about mining for yourself...your effort, your HBIT.

As to why reward the commenter more...the purpose of HBIT is to reward one's effort. Initially, calling the !hivebits command gave 100% to the commenter. A Hive user noted that this might be viewed as spam by the person being commented to since they were uninvolved bystanders who only received a notification of someone else's rewards. So, I split the HBIT reward 90/10. That way the person being replied to does indeed now receive something...I called it a "royalty" for their initial post. Still, as intended, mining HBIT mostly rewards the "miner", that is, the person actually putting in the effort to call the HBIT command.

My recommendation for anyone mining HBIT regularly is to make your own "My HBIT mine" post and mine there, or to use the official HBIT mine @hivebits.mine

Regarding the tribaldex distribution contract, I don't THINK that's what I'm after. As I understand, and I could be wrong, but I see that as essentially a token airdrop mechanism. If so, that's not the goal of HBIT. The goal of HBIT is to reward Hive users for their purposeful, conscious effort. Unlike a stake-and-wait system, the idea here emphasizes daily-or-regular-effort. The HBIT effort is very small, but that's kind of the point...small, consistent, persistent actions to yield results.

Honestly, I appreciate your feedback...that's how we get better. :)

Hmmm I see... now I got it.

Either way, I don't think spreading 10/90 will solve a situation, the only way in my view will be for the commenter to be aware where it should or not invoke the command in order to not spam (or even worse, cause/influence others to do the same on the "no so wished" place).

Have you thought about how to deal with many accounts being created to mine 1 token each too?

And one last question... how is the token going to have value? Who will buy it and for what reason?

Awesome man, I've always been into throwing some weight around.. or trying to anyway !LOL

Triathlon would be an awesome challenge to tick off. I ran a half marathon about 4 years ago, but haven't run since then. Been running the last 2 months, mixing it in with the weight training 👍

That's the way haha can't go wrong with at least trying, much more than most do. I believe every one should lift some form of weights, builds a great strong frame, stay fit, strengthen immune system etc, so many benefits.
Oh great stuff, half marathon is very decent, I've done 2 tough muddas before and by 10km had calf cramps was very uncomfortable ha.
2 months is awesome, well done. I really need to drink less beers and get stuck back into fitness stuff. Really hard with all this stuff going on in the world.

Decentraland, interesting... I think I have stumbled on it in the past but didn't appeal much. Looks much alike what DLUX is trying to do but on HIVE.

When VR dives heavily into the blockchain world its going to be pretty epic too. That is one of the reasons I am looking closely at DLUX.

Thanks to forykw and the pub for the DLUX rewards. I am happy for u to hang on to them until the end of the experiment if its easier. A one week return payback is fantastic but I thinking your investment not including your time should have been 95% to the pub and about 5% for my 153DLUX

The experiment was to sort of captivate others... failed completely! 🤣 I didn't call for rewards for that reason. Either way, I wanna be fair with the Pub, so what I might end up doing if no one goes with it, is to put some DLUX of mine... The node seems pretty stable on Heroku, so I am definitely going to invest in it if no one wants to grab that.

So do you need to set up a node to be a witness and mine Hive by verifying transitions? and
do you need more than a $1000 laptop and a hand full of hive power to make it worth while?

The DLUX node is very cheap on resources... could even run on the phone if you knew how to command line the thing.

The HIVE node is more beefy... needs just for witnesses (there are many functions for HIVE nodes), aside from others things that witnesses sometimes provide, around 400GB of disk space just for the blockchain and either a NVMe disk at least. So we are talking about $2k NZD minimum... if running things on a proper node then it will go higher, like $5k. And it needs to be full time connected to the internet.

Maybe it could be done with a $1k laptop, but some hacking (like replacing the disk for a NVMe if it does not have one) would be needed. If running stuff from the NVMe it does not need much memory. Otherwise the minimum is around 20GB just to run the thing.

Huge shout out... thanks for that mate.

Hello @new.things yeah now that's scary, no big roll, no meat and now no tofu! That's some scary stuff going on, and yes I'm still considering selling up and buying a decent block in the middle of no where and live off the lands with no one around.
It would have to be near the sea though, I can't live away from it 😊

Well hello there! I am... late. Not drunk, just late, but several... days.

I've been tired. I wrote about it (and food related teachings @forykw) in this post.

I'm feeling a bit better now. Especially since I realised I'm in the "Top 33 Hive Emoji Users" of all time list 😂 If you're an emoji fan you might like this.

I'm also loving that I won the NFT from last week's gathering. That was a fun surprise. Thank you again José 🙏

I've been diligently socking HBD away in Savings 💰 I'm delighted to be up to "92.394 $" at time of writing. I'll just have to remember to move it to Liquid HIVE around the 28th ish so it's there in time to play with my fellow Hivians for HPUD. (<--- Methinks I must be starting to get my head around some Hive related things. Look at all that jargon!)

I had a whole list of articles for newbies and getting better at all things Hive blogging related, but I seem to have not read my way through them. If I shared them here @new.aaron, @crackyup, @vidus4evz, @lukeeeyy, @mateyevans would any of you read them? They're useful but would you make the time for it or prefer to learn by having new.things teach you everything personally? (Actually, there's some helpful stuff in these for you too Liam @maccazftw. Have you read any "newbie guides"?)

Okay, I think that's enough musing at the pub on this already-warm Tuesday morning 😉

Oh, unless you can tell me José if there's a way I can block someone from following and seeing my account? As you know, most people on Hive are awesome but I have one person upvoting my stuff who, let's just say, I'm less than comfortable with. Can I block them altogether?

Have a fab week peeps!

=) nop... this is blockchain... anything you do here is available to anyone. The only thing you can do if you don't like someone is to mute that person, that will make the posts of that person not disturb you. But this is only a thing from the web apps, nothing to do with the blockchain itself.

No one can prevent someone to follow you, vote or reblog anything you post. The best option you might have on a decentralized social blockchain is to ignore what you don't care about or dislike.

You can also downvote that person's content (in case that person is trying o lure you into curating it) but don't mix downvoting with disliking content... downvoting should be interpreted as the value you think a specific content should take from the rewards pool. So, it's way more complicated than liking or disliking content.

My best recommendation will still be, to ignore it.

Stay !ALIVE

And thanks for voting for witnesses.

By the way, if the guy you mention is this one that just voted for your comment. Just ignore. Whomever the person is, is just trying to mess up with people.

Hello @conciouscat. Yes I'm very interested in knowing more on what you've mentioned in this post.
I don't get enough time to talk to @new.things on smoko and lunch. I really have to stop being lazy and head to a park run and catch up with you both. I'm just trying to do some more running to be up to speed, I'm fairly slow at the moment 😂

Hey @new.aaron, okie dokie. So between now and when we see you at parkrun ;) here are the three best things I can think to share with you for now. Read them in the order suggested below:

  1. 3 things newbies should do in their first week on Hive

  2. How to get a great start on the Hive Blockchain

  3. How to get a great start on Hive (2)

It might be wise to read one then take one new action. Then read the next one, etc.

Awesome, thanks for the links. I am up to date with the first 2 but creating my initial post I'm a little hung up on. I'm into many things so trying to think up what to talk about. I think I would like to talk about health and what I have looked into and learnt but I don't want to give out medical advise, because that always goes south. Might try and stick to what I know best, lifting heavy things up and putting them down 😂

😁 Great work on your progress so far @new.aaron.

Definitely a good idea to stay away from giving out medical advice, though taking about what you're interested in allows others to know what you're about.

Remember, it doesn't have to be perfect. It's just a starting point. It's just one post. Tell us about you and then hit publish. And... then start the next one 😉
