Mountains of Power Recap

I created the thumbnail by adding the Pokémon GO sprites of these Pokémon to a photo that I took back on a holiday sometime ago. I searched through my photos to find one that seemed fitting for the event.

The Mountains of Power event in Pokémon GO ended earlier this week. I was a bit busy the day it ended, and I hadn't traded my Mawile from the Field Research Tasks yet. Which combines to why I'm posting the recap later.

During the event there was a Limited Research for the Mountains of Power, it existed of two pages with tasks. In this photo you can see what had to be done for both and the Pokémon Encounters that were given as rewards. Including the stats of the ones that I got.

Many of those Pokémon were featured in the event as wild spawns, Field Research tasks encounters or Raids. Except for Chimecho, I haven't see Chimecho anywhere except for the one encounter from the Limited Research.

In my blog post about the event, which you can check at https://hive.blog/gaming/@athunderstruck/mountains-of-power-event, I showed all of my Onix. At that time I wasn't sure if I had Lucky Steelix already or not. I checked in the days after, and I did not have Lucky Steelix in the Pokédex yet.

So I evolved that Lucky Onix I had to now have Lucky Steelix. I chose to also evolve that 93% IV Shiny Onix into Shiny Steelix. This photo shows how I didn't have Lucky Steelix yet and both of the evolved Steelix after I evolved them.

I haven't Mega Evolved this Steelix yet because I didn't make up my mind about it yet. Although it could still be sometime before I get a really great and decent level Onix that I could use. Of course if I do Mega Evolve Steelix already, I could earn Mega Energy by walking with any Onix or Steelix. Its level is also quite low though, so I feel like if I do Mega Evolve this one it's best to do so when the Mega gets a CP boost. Sometimes Niantic has these events where a certain Mega Pokémon gets a CP boost, which makes it go to max level temporarily while its Mega Evolved.

In the blog post about the event I showed my Mawile Pokédex entry too, showing that I didn't have a Lucky yet. Throughout the event I found a good amount of the Event Field Research tasks that had a Mawile encounter as reward. I've caught around 30 of them from these, just slightly above 30 I'm sure. Then I traded close to 30 with friends too. Unfortunately out of those ~30 trades, we didn't get any Lucky Mawile! 😮 My friends ran out of Mawile, I still have a few so maybe I'll be lucky if I trade with someone else. It's only up to 5 more that I have for trade so not a high chance considering how these went.

The left part of this next photo is from the previous blog. The part on the right is after all the ones I caught from the Field Research Tasks and after trading with friends.

During the event I haven't encountered any Shiny Pokémon. I did get a lot of Excellent throws, mostly on Machop, Slugma and Nosepass. It's unfortunate I didn't encounter a Shiny Slugma as it made its Pokémon GO debut with this event. We do have GO Tour: Johto coming up near the end of February where Slugma will be part of.

For Machop I definitely got a nice additional amount of XL Candy, not enough yet to potentially power up 2 Machamp to level 50 yet. Still at least already quite decent. I should power up the first one already honestly.

How did the Mountains of Power event go for you? Did you get some new Shinies?

Don't forget that tomorrow, Sunday January 16th the monthly Community Day will be taking place from 11 am through 5 pm local time. It'll feature Spheal and have a 3x Catch XP bonus.
