Weekly battle challenges with the WOOD NYMPH

Ahoy! This week I am once again entering @splinterland's weekly battle challenge. After forgetting so often, I will try to make it a habit to enter these weekly challenges more often. Especially as it might help me play some cards I hardly ever play.

This isn't the case for the Wood Nymph. I still use her every now and then. I used to play her more often, but with all the newer cards that have come out she fits into the team less often than she used to. When I get the chance to play her I still do, because I've always loved having her in my line-up to heal my tank. She has already helped me win several fights against Llama Kron for example.

The Wood Nymph card was in one of the earlier Reward card rotations. I have her at level 5, which looks like this.

It starts off at level 1 with the Tank Heal ability already, which makes it a quite nice monster to have in an Earth line-up. Damage wise there isn't much of a contribution with the 1 Magic Attack damage. At level 8 this is increased to 2. With summoners like Delwyn Dragonscale and the new Obisidian from Chaos Legion, she could have that additional +1 Magic Attack from their bonuses.

This week I've had at least 2 interesting battles with the Wood Nymph. I used her in more battles, but didn't always save the link. It's been a touch decision which of these two battles to pick. I ended up choosing one where I used Mylor Crowling vs Quix the Devious. The line-ups looked like this.

For this battle with only Earth and Dragon available and 21 Mana, the rulesets were:

  • Weak Magic: Magic attacks hit Armor before reducing Health
  • Holy Protection: All Monsters have the Divine Shield ability

With my Mylor Crowling all my monsters get Thorns, especially useful for my tank and backline in case my opponent was bringing some monsters with Sneak. My opponent's Quix the Devious reduced all of my monsters Speed and Ranged Attack by 1. For the Ranged Attack reduction only my Javelin Thrower was affected.

(Due to my Mylor Crowling being level 2, my Wood Nymph was level 3 instead of level 5)

I decided to go with Flesh Golem in the front, quite tanky and he can heal himself. Then I put the Chaos Agent in case my opponent was bringing any Monster with Snipe. I placed Wood Nymph next, to allow her to heal my Flesh Golem. Because Ranged Attacks can't attack from the front I placed her before my Javelin Thrower and Halfling Alchemist. That would allow her to attack still if she ended in the first position. I placed the Furious Chicken in the back in case my opponent was bringing a Monster with Sneak.

The battle starts with my opponent's Naga Assassin taking my Flesh Golem's Divine Shield. After that their Twilight Basilisk attacks my Flesh Golem, losing its Divine Shield due to Thorns. The Javelin Thrower takes away the Divine Shield from Djinn Chwala, which then attacks my Flesh Golem and suffers damage from Thorns. My Flesh Golem can now heal itself a bit, but loses most of that when it attacks Djinn Chwala and gets hit by the Thorns. Some more healing from Wood Nymph. The Halfling Alchemist then reduces Djinn Chwala's Melee Attack from 3 to 1, which will help me survive better against the whole enemy line-up.

In Round 2 the Twilight Basilisk and Djinn Chwala start dropping my Flesh Golem's health quite low. It heals for 3, but loses 2 health again due to Thorns on Djinn Chwala. After that a hit from my opponents Djinn Biljka in the backline reduces my Flesh Golem to 2 health.

Wood Nymph and Halfling Alchemist have shined here really well. Without my Wood Nymph's heal and Halfling Alchemist's damage reduction on Djinn Chwala, my Flesh Golem would've now been dead. But they worked well together and kept it alive.

At this point my opponents Djinn Chwala is still at 3 health. So things could've started going downhill if my Flesh Golem would've died here already due to low health on my Chaos Agent and Wood Nymph that could easily get taken out by the Djinn Biljka if they end up in first positions.

Now a combination of my Wood Nymph and Halfling Alchemist finishing the round and then Javelin Thrower hitting in the next round, kills off the Djinn Chwala. The Twilight Basilisk brings my Flesh Golem back down to 2 health. But it goes next, heals itself and kills the Twilight Basilisk. From this point onward my opponent can't do much anymore. The Naga Assassin does have the Backfire ability, so when my Flesh Golem missed it that resulted in two damage to it. The Djinn Biljka did another 2 damage, reducing Flesh Golem's health to 4. I've got a few more misses against the Naga Assassin, but for my backline that first took their Divine Shield away. No matter how many times they'd miss, the Flesh Golem was getting enough healing from itself and Wood Nymph. On top of that, Wood Nymph's Magic Attacks always hit the Naga Assassin, so she was definitely staying alive.

My team composition worked perfectly fine. There were no Snipe Monsters in the enemy team and no Magic Reflect, so my Wood Nymph was perfectly safe. She did a great job keeping the Flesh Golem alive until the end of the match.

Thanks for sharing! - @lenonmc21

Your battle was very interesting, but I would like you to layout your post in a more orderly way, where all the details of your battle strategy are clear.

Thank you! Yeah I guess it was quite a lot of text, causing some structure to get lost. Would you prefer I try to edit this post or to keep the feedback in mind for the next one?
