Does clothing define us?

Clothing or fashion has evolved over the years and they keep evolving as time goes by. Over the years, the dressing had a purpose and those purposes were dependent on the condition of the atmosphere and it was either to keep them warm in cold weather, or a dressing to allow room for air in hot weather and for occasions or specific status. In this current age, clothing has evolved beyond that, it now defines us, our lifestyle, personalities and social status.

I know the first obvious answer as to why people dress is for warmth or protection or to cover our body but there are other reasons why people dress the way they dress currently and some reasons are listed below.

Reason for the way people dress

To impress

This is one common reason why people dress today, especially the youth, they dress to impress either the opposite sex or to feel among in the society even though they have nothing to show for it, just for deception to make the opposite believe they are worthy of the lifestyle that follows the dressing.

The way they want to be treated

Some people dress the way they want to be treated when they step outside and they have clothes to match their mood. They can dress flashy if they want to be noticed, they have dress if they want to be feared or want people to keep their distance or if they want to be respected and admired etc.

For protection

The word protection will obviously mean against weather factors but when I say protection I am also talking about protection from environmental factors such as getting stared at suspiciously when walking in an environment, getting arrested or abused wrongly, criticised or judged etc. we can also dress to wade of enemies, for example, a wealthy person can dress so simple without the expensive jewels or clothes to avoid unwanted attention.

For psychological need

The psychological need can involve dressing for a sense of beauty, for positive emotions that we want to attract, for occasions etc.
Some dress as to whatever is available because of situations they are facing or circumstances force them, like lack of finances, therefore whatever they buy or get offered from people they accept as long they are wearing clothes is okay it can be tight ones, long, short, comfortable or not comfortable just to be a normal human being.

They are some people who just prefer to be a nudist too. LOL
