Reddit Going Web3, Will it Make it More Similar to Hive?

Reddit

Reddit has been around for ages and even long before cryptocurrency, the platform was developed as a forum where users can post their content be it social news, videos or anything fun and those content gets curated by other members of the platform. Registration on the Reddit platform is free and users can get access to all the features on the platform but are disturbed by ads if they want an ad-free space they will have to upgrade by paying a subscription plan.

Reddit has decided that they will be entering the Web3 space and by embracing the web3 tech they will adopt FTX Pay and Arbitrum which are payment methods that will enable users to pay for points gas fees.

What makes it Similar to Hive?

Just like Hive, Reddit is a content base platform where users get to upload their content and it gets curated when users like the post and get downvoted when they don’t like or agree with the content posted. But for Reddit, when a post or content gets too many downvotes it can be pushed aside to avoid users from seeing it and only serve them contents that are deemed valuable.

Just like Hive, Reddit also has communities called subreddit where they can post various topics on like music, politics, sports, health, animals etc. And they have their own subreddits moderators just like Hive too.

On Hive we have hivewatchers who frown against plagiarism and other parties who frown against content containing violence and abuse but on Reddit, they have general admins who have to ensure those things don’t fly through.

Another common similarity is that users can choose to be anonymous if they like but on Hive it’s good and recommended to introduce yourself to the Hive community.

Summary

Even without Reddit embracing web3 technology they have somehow been operating like a decentralized platform and more advanced than other social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter and now that they started to embrace web3 technology guess it’s the next step of evolution for the platform

If Reddit will really embrace Web3, I might reconsider revisiting it more often.

Lol that'd be cool but it won't be anything like Hive though

I know. Every time I remember Reddit, it reminds me of something not so good.

Some people say that it is a distraction during working (or studying) hours, and some have even recommended apps which block distracting online websites or apps (especially popular social media platforms). 🤓

At first, I find it very helpful. But when Reddit started "censoring" my post, I lost interest in using the platform. I seldom visit it.

Have you experienced outright banning, or just shadowbanning? 😮

I think it's more of shadow banning. Even my post that got 54 votes and 2 Silver awards at first was removed later and considered spam.

Maybe there's a Hive-based dapp alternative for that website! 🤔😏

Still popular and that's why I still visit it from time to time though engagement is largely missing.

Hope you don't spend more time than you intended reading on that website! 🤗

Spending 1 minute is already too long. 😆

I can say that's accurate! 😀 Maybe if there's a Hive-based alternative for that website, 1 hour might still be too short. 😆

And that's what's happening here on Hive. 24 hours seem not enough. 😄😆

Despite Hive being interesting (especially because of its dapps), we should still give more priority to more important real-life activities (including recreation). 🤗
