Twitch Co-Founder Kevin Lin Raises $24M for Web3 Gaming Firm
Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin is an American internet entrepreneur who is known for his love of games, and he’s not just the co-founder of Twitch alone but also the co-founder of Justin.tv, Atrium and SocialCam. However, Kevin Lin has launched a new web3 Interactive Media Company called Metatheory and it’s an entertainment company driven by technology.
Earlier today, the official handle of the web3 sci-fi game DuskBreakers of Metatheory announced that they have raised the sum of $24 million series A for the game franchise, and they went ahead in giving a shout-out and a thank you message to some bodies that contributed or participated in the raise.
Some companies that participated include FTX, Metric Circle, Pantera Capital, Global Coin Research, Dragon Fly, Breyer Capital, Recharge Capital and a16z etc.
Metatheory was developed in 2021 and was launched by Kevin Lin and its main purpose of it is for the development of web3 games and other virtual worlds after the raise has concluded he made a statement saying
"Building immersive digital experiences has always been a passion of mine, and after stepping away from Twitch to explore what’s next in the industry, I truly believe blockchain will open the door to even more possibilities and have a major impact on the gaming, storytelling and community-building space. At Metatheory, we’ve built a team of industry vets who are focused on embracing blockchain across multiple media categories with a focus on elevating standards of customer experience and shared ownership."
About DuskBreakers the web3 sci-fi game
The DuskBreakers is a sci-fi game that describes what will become of humanity in 2080 and it also follows how humans will be technologically enhanced and going on missions to collect or mine different materials that will enable them to change the fate or future of humans. The game was released in December 2021 but however, but it’s just a minigame and the full play-to-earn version will be released before the year-end of 2022.
It would also interest you that the other co-founders of Twitch are also involved in this project and they are Jason Maestas who’s on the influencer marketing team on Twitch and is currently the VP of Community and Marketing of DuskBreakers, and JT Gleason who’s the former Twitch developer and engineer is currently the Company’s CTO and lastly the art design of DuskBreakers was also the former lead illustrator a Twitch.
