STREET PHOTOGRAPHY VOLUME 1 - TRANSIT EDITION.

(Edited)

Hello, photography lovers.
I am a lover of photography who wishes to become great at it someday, for pleasure mostly. I love to take pictures of things and breathe a little life unto them.
Personally, I believe every scene is picture worthy, I say this because I see and perceive beauty differently. They say beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder and my eyes bestows indiscriminately.

Thousands of words, tons of stories; so much information tucked away behind the lenses of a shooting device. For me, photography is like a spiritual experience, there is always more that could be happening, sometimes it is in your main focus, other times it is the elements that get lost in the blur that carries a bigger story. For every gaze, there is a perception, a perspective.

What do you see in this Images? What comes to your beautiful mind?

1. THE NAKED WOUNDED TREE.

IMG_7412.jpg

I was in a taxi headed some place I don't recall, and when I'm headed anywhere, my favorite activity is taking pictures of the atmosphere and seemingly mundane things that draw my attention. This tree happened to be one of them. At first I felt sad and sorry for the tree because the sight of a tree dying or being cut down is never a pleasant one for me. I thought: TORTURE, RESCUE.

It felt sad, naked and alone. What was once a beautiful tree full of healthy leaves and branches now reduced to an annoying sight for a wood. It must be jealous of the other trees around. Why me?
I couldn't tell if it was suffering from bad weather changes where the leaves had dried and fallen off; if that is the case then it could survive. But, it also appeared like it was being dealt the brutal sharp edges of a machete because the branches looked like they were being cut off.

After I took the picture and looked at it, I saw the tree had actually been burned and was covered in black bruises., more cruelty. Whatever this poor had done to be treated that way. It could have been an accident or they were aggressively trying to rid that environment of that tree.
The tiny branches are throwing their hands to the heavens, calling for rescue but help is not coming. The gods they should be praying to were not in the skies, they are on the ground with gasoline and machete, ready to wreck havoc and unwilling to hear any pleas.

I wished the poor thing well as I journeyed on.

Can you see the man sitting by the fence? I thought he was a small tree with his green outfit until I looked closely.

2. RELIGION AND EXPRESSION.

IMG_6155.jpg

On this rainy day, I was returning from visiting Janet's at her sister's. I already pulled my phone to request a ride when she encouraged me to ride the bus, I had never ridden the bus on this axis before so I bought the idea. It was about 20 to 30 minutes ride home, with a dash of traffic that would be about 45 minutes or more.

It was decent regular looking bus, I hopped into the front seat, being the only empty seat. Nothing could have prepared me for the interior I was met with.
The driver was a loud one, tried to start a conversation with me but I didn't indulge him so he kept throwing his words at the people at the back.

Anyways, when I saw this, I thought: RELIGION AND EXPRESSION. Religion is an unavoidable concept in our world, they are symbols of the different faiths everywhere you go; now this driver had a nice swag to his. Religion thrives on expression, everyone tries to build an image, a representation that best portrays how they relate with their faith.

I thought he had a cool set up. I couldn't tell exactly what his religion or faith was, but I concluded the wax image was Jesus because of the crucifixion sticker on his windscreen. He looks quite fit with his ribbed abs and muscle flexing posture; gorgeous.
The dramatic chain resting on his feet was a nice touch. Maybe it portrays a strong grounded presence, but chains are associated with captivity so he there is a possibility that he is trying to break free and that would make sense cause of his pose, Lol. I don't know. Ignore my mind.

The chains look old and worn out but they belong. Right there with the old rusty dashboard, the AC vents, the radio set and the worn out steering that looked like something super heavy landed and crashed unto its face leaving a terrible scar.
I did not forget about the sunglasses, resting nicely on the ribbed man's feet. I couldn't help but wonder if he actually wears those glasses.

Anyways, his set up had an bold attitude and an interesting vibe to it, that made me wonder what kind of man he was, what lives he has lived, what sense his set up makes to him. I would have indulged him it it were a an uber ride or something, but I didn't because whenever I'm riding a bus, the only thing on my mind is getting to my destination.

3. HE MADE A STOP AT THE VULCANIZER.

IMG_6297.jpg

Along the way he stopped to pump one of his tires, and I thought the set up of the machine looked interesting so I took a picture. These roadside vulcanizers are real life savers; the streets of Lagos could never do without them. You just stop and they give you a quick pump and you go your merry way.

The passengers murmured when he stopped, Lagosians are always in a haste for some reason; this was only going to take a few minutes yet they complained. There are two umbrellas and a woman sells water, soda and alcohol in one. Mechanics drink lots of alcohol and so do public buses drivers so her location makes sense. I wondered what that guy was waiting for as he sat there and pressed his phone. The rocks were also part of the tools here, as you can see.

The name vulcanizer hunts me in my sleep because it sounds like forkanizer; just unnecessary if you ask me.

4.TO BE A GOAT - WHAT A LIFE!

IMG_9768.jpg

First of all, say hello to the sky, she looks gorgeous with the editing options I applied. The sky is a timeless piece of art that continues to evolve and reinvent itself everyday. It looked peaceful and as it rested right above the chaos of the day.

This one is a mixture of SERENITY AND CHAOS. The peaceful and elegant drip of the sky and the madness, noise and stench of the goat hub who are all fated to to be slaughtered someday. I figured it was a road side market for goats sold by the mallams. You can see most of the goats feeding from different sections completely oblivious of their fate.

This image was from from a different day, a few months ago actually when I was attending a conference with my best friend. I remember winding down in a attempt to take clearer pictures but the stench of the area discouraged me. To be those goats? The only reason they are being tended is for one purpose only - the have all been fated to die and end up in the bellies of humans in assorted varieties of dishes. How sad.

I wondered if there was an abattoir nearby where they did justice to the goats, I'm sure there is; because most people who buy goat meat don't know how to kill and cut them so that is part of those mallams' job.

I imagined these goats grazing in an open field instead, without a target on their backs, and at the end of the day they would bleat and go back home to their farm and chew their chords till the next day.

That is all for now. I hope to return tomorrow and every other day I have some content to share with you. Thank you for your time.

You actually think wide ooo 😅
You did much more than breathing life into these photos, you even gave them character development.

Imagine the Tree, you spoke about how healthy it was and the forms of torture it had to endure to get to the point it is today... Haba.. as if you were there 😅 that's pretty cool.

And by the way, I thought the man at the back was a small tree or heap of grasses/leaves.

I won't say much about the forkanizer 😅😅😅

That last picture looks Mainlandish 🤔
