Brütal Legend es un videojuego de acción-aventura y estrategia (con mucho de hack and slash) desarrollado para PS3 y la Xbox 360, por la empresa de Tim Schafer Double Fine Productions y publicado por Electronic Arts en Octubre de 2009.
En 2013 se lanzó el juego por la plataforma Steam para PC, añadiendo un nuevo modo Multijugador.
Se trata de otra de las grandes ideas originales de Tim Schafer.
Tim Schafer is a masterpiece creator. One of the great creative minds in this diverse world of video games (which unites us here). This eccentric developer is well known for the extravagant aesthetics of his creations, his works with tons of humor and his enveloping plots: and with this work he is once again demonstrated.
Brütal Legend is an action-adventure and strategy video game (with a lot of hack and slash) developed for PS3 and Xbox 360, by Tim Schafer's Double Fine Productions company and published by Electronic Arts in October 2009.
In 2013 the game was released on the Steam platform for PC, adding a new Multiplayer mode.
This is another of Tim Schafer's great original ideas.
HISTORIA
Durante un concierto Eddie, el guitarrista lider de una banda de heavy metal, muere aplastado por parte de la escenografía; pero su sangre cae sobre la hebilla de su cinturón y esto invoca a una bestia de metal que le teletransporta a un mundo alucinante donde deberá luchar (de parte de la resistencia) contra un ejercito de demonios liderados por el malvado General Lionwhyte.
A partir de aqui se desarrolla toda la desquiciante acción de este bizarro videojuego
STORY
During a concert Eddie, the lead guitarist of a heavy metal band, is crushed to death by the scenery; but his blood falls on the buckle of his belt and this summons a metal beast that teleports him to an amazing world where he must fight (on behalf of the resistance) against an army of demons led by the evil General Lionwhyte.
From here all the maddening action of this bizarre video game unfolds.
GRÁFICOS
El apartado visual de este videojuego es todo un homenaje al icónico dibujante de comics Frank Frazetta; y se ha inspirado, además, en las portadas de los álbumes más emblemáticos de la época de oro del heavy metal.
El diseño de Eddie Riggs esta inspirado en Lemmy Kilmister, el cantante y bajista británico de la banda Motörhead.
Aquí nos encontraremos con abigarrados escenarios donde el paisaje consta de montañas de altavoces o neumáticos, huesos apilados, rocas con forma de guitarras, árboles que dan como frutos barriles de cerveza, etc.
Cuenta, además, con muchas referencias a elementos reales como portadas emblemáticas de álbumes del género y algunas misiones están basadas en populares canciones como Ride the Lightning o Run to the Hills.
GRAPHICS
The visual section of this game is a tribute to the iconic comic artist Frank Frazetta; and it has also been inspired by the covers of the most emblematic albums of the golden age of heavy metal..
Eddie Riggs' design is inspired by Lemmy Kilmister, the British singer and bassist of the band Motörhead.
Here we will find variegated scenarios where the landscape consists of mountains of speakers or tires, stacked bones, rocks shaped like guitars, trees that bear barrels of beer, etc.
It also has many references to real elements such as emblematic album covers of the genre and some missions are based on popular songs such as Ride the Lightning or Run to the Hills.
MECÁNICA
Brütal Legend es un juego de acción-aventura en tercera persona con elementos de estrategia en tiempo real.
Para luchar contra este ejercito de demonios, y completar muchas misiones, nos vamos a mover en un mundo abierto que Tim Schafer ha descrito como un área de aproximadamente 100 km2. En este mundo abierto dispondremos de un mapa y las señales de Deuce (nuestro vehículo customizado) para guiarnos hacia las distintas misiones de esta aventura
En el juego hay más de 23 misiones principales y 30 misiones secundarias (que podremos realizar opcionalmente). Para completar estas misiones Eddie posee 3 herramientas que utiliza para el combate y el transporte:
- Un hacha llamada "El Separador",
- Su guitarra Flying V "Clementine" que tiene la capacidad de lanzar hechizos mágicos.
- Un coche (The Deuce) customizado por el propio Eddie.
MECHANICS
Brütal Legend is a third person action-adventure game with elements of real-time strategy.
To fight this army of demons, and complete many missions, we are going to move in an open world that Tim Schafer has described as an area of approximately 100 km2. In this open world we will have a map and the signs of Deuce (our guarded vehicle) to guide us towards the different missions of this adventure.
In the game there are more than 23 main missions and 30 secondary missions (which we can optionally carry out). To complete these missions Eddie has 3 tools that he uses for combat and transport:
- An axe called "The Separator",
- His Flying V "Clementine" guitar that has the ability to cast magic spells.
- A hot rod (The Deuce) customized by Eddie himself.

En su versión original, la imagen y la voz de Eddie Riggs, el protagonista, esta a cargo del famoso actor Jack Black (fan declarado de Tim Schafer y su obra Psychonauts); de igual manera, también han prestado su imagen y voz algunas otras famosas estrellas del rock como:
- Rob Halford: vocalista de Judas Priest.
- Lemmy Kilmister: cantante y bajista británico de Motörhead.
- Lita Ford: formada en la banda de rock de mujeres adolescentes The Runaways.
- Y el mismísimo Ozzy Osbourne: cantante de la mitica banda Black Sabbath.
Brütal Legend nos trae 75 bandas diferentes, del más puro estilo heavy metal; seleccionadas por el mismo Schafer. Toda una lista de canciones "diseñada para ser amada por los fanáticos del Metal". Schafer buscó incluir canciones de la mayoría de los subgéneros principales del metal, incluidos:
- Heavy metal clásico.
- Metal industrial.
- Black metal.
- Doom metal.
El jugador puede crear una lista de canciones con las canciones que ha ido desbloqueando (con las misiones secundarias), o con las que ha sido recompensado.
SOUNDTRACK

Schafer nos brinda con este videojuego otro de sus grandes personajes. Y hace patente, una vez más, porque es considerado uno de los mejores contadores de historias en este apasionante mundo de los videojuegos.
Brütal Legend nos complace con una historia envolvente, original y llena de muchísimo humor. Además, de joyas clásicas del género heavy metal. Convirtiéndose en otro título que ya brilla, con letras de oro, en la historia de los videojuegos.
Schafer demuestra que un videojuego puede ser el vehículo perfecto para sumergirnos en una historia emocionante, inolvidable y llena de variados matices: como toda verdadera forma de arte.
