Knitting is something I do to distract myself, it is not an activity that I do with any other purpose than to enjoy the time of creation and the energy of seeing the finished work. I do this activity many times during my work, while everyone is chatting and hanging out in ceremony, I am knitting a little bit and so I feel like I am doing something more productive at night. This has made many people interested in my work, so many of the bracelets I make go away the same night I make them, or I also end up with some kind of special request from one of the attendees to the ceremony; Last week just the latter happened, a friend came to the house to learn about grandpa's medicine and when he saw me knitting he told me that he had wanted a bracelet for a long time so he would look for a pattern that he liked to tell me what he wanted specifically. A few days later he wrote me to tell me what he had decided and sent me a picture of some blue macaws.

In Caracas the macaws are a center of attention, they fly over the city in the mornings and mid afternoon, people usually give them food, fruit or some seeds to make them stop on their rooftops, the beautiful macaws just go, bite and go on their way, but many already have routines and specific places where to look for these foods. It is wonderful to see them and share with them, that is why many people fall in love with these flying animals, we love their freedom and their visits fill the heart with good energy. Macaws are synonymous of eternal love and it is just because of that that there are many designs of handles with macaws or parrots, it is amazing how the culture of the city unites people with this taste, and it is even more great to have the opportunity to create for those lovers. Today I had the opportunity to design a pair of blue macaws, here I show you what this process has been like.

Blue Macaw Handle

A week ago I uploaded the process I did to weave a bead bracelet (Water Dream), there I explain step by step how to create it from scratch with a loom. On that occasion I had been creating the design as I was weaving it, so it was not necessary to make a guide.

This time to start I had to know what to do and how to do it, I needed to count and distribute the macaws evenly on the handle so they would not be more on one side, or just to make the process easier for me since thinking about how each bead goes, is quite late.

I drew the little macaws during a private ceremony we had on Sunday and yesterday at the night ceremony of Ñua I sat at the table and started...

photo4918220669477562758.jpg

This design was 21 rows wide, as I mentioned before, my loom is a little small and the most I can do with it are things that are no more than 23 rows wide. I made this one 21 lines wide so that the macaws would be glued together.

photo4918220669477562755.jpg

At the beginning you can see how when I drew the macaws I did it without a background, reason that inevitably led me to invent anything, so I started to make a mini design that began in the center between the two, a mother's womb with green degrades. Sometimes I just let myself go and feel to find the colors I want to use and as this has always been a meditation, I let that choice flow from the bottom of my subconscious, then I interpret how I feel and work on it.

photo4918220669477562754.jpg

Green is the color we instinctively look for when we are depressed or have just experienced a trauma. It creates a feeling of comfort and relaxation, of calm and inner peace, which makes us feel balanced internally, this I internalized hours later during my process in the ceremony.

Step by step, dot by dot the colors are mixing and I begin to feel the excitement of how this can come out, the good thing is that there is no way to make a mistake, here any decision can be a good spark to ignite creativity and improvisation is key to future fabrics.

photo4918220669477562752.jpg

Going down I started to balance those colors, where do I want to take my emotions? I ask myself several questions and start weaving, what do I want the other person to feel when they see me? What things can we connect with?

photo4918220669477562751.jpg

So I decided that to finish I would use an orange, so I began to transform the green by degrading it from the outside, the meditation was now inclined to look for joy and understanding, happiness, creation, friendship and life to release negative emotions, and what time than a pink moon for such things?

Once finished in what I can say, was record time, I felt calm and content that the macaws were vibrant and in place. 😅

Now all that was left was to weave the handles and burn the ends of the thread so they wouldn't come loose in the future.

Here is the result:

It is so relaxing reading your posts. The way you speak of meditating and trying to figure out where your emotions want to go as far as design and color-wise, I can really tell you put a lot of yourself into your work.

The result is so beautiful! I love the blue macaws design. You are truly talented and your work is inspiring. I’m sure the person receiving these will be very pleased.

I am really hoping you are able to sell these online one day. I’d probably be one of your first customers! 😁😆😍

Thank you so much, it has been about more than just knitting, putting a little bit of our soul into what we do, no matter if we are cleaning, or cooking, whatever you do as long as you do it from the heart it will have a meaning and become something valuable 🙏.

I'm seriously going to start planning that online shop thing 😂😅
