Off To Safety

I still have the pictures of that incident as a child play in my head once in a while.
We lived in the Army barracks then, I was born there. There are different quarters in the barracks according to rank and department. We lived in the medical quarters because my dad was a medical staff. The medical quarters was the last residential area close to a place called Range I don't know why it was called that but I knew that is where they practice shooting and ammunition were kept there.

I remembered that afternoon, I was playing with my doll on the floor in our parlour when we started hearing the sound of bomb so close.
The glass windows started falling and breaking into pieces with very loud sounds.

My mum rushed out of the room, picked me up and ran out of the house. My elder siblings were not at home.

She strapped me to her back with her wrapper and oja I still remembered the colors of the clothes she was putting on. She started running with me on her back. Other people were running too both the children and their parents. It was a serious commotion I was still holding the doll I was playing with earlier.

It didn't make much sense to me then because I was very young maybe the psychologist may be able to give reasons why I still remember this incidence.
Everyone ran out of our quarters to a safe place. We were mostly women and children because the men were at work.

I still remember how my mum stood still carrying me at her back without holding any other thing. She only made sure she carried herself and her child to safety.

Things like this are issues I pray wholeheartedly against all the time because it's better imagined or watched on the news than being the victim.

My baby and I

In such a situation, I will first pick up my baby just like my mum did and strap her at my back like the African woman that I am. This will be the first thing I would do because I don't think I will survive if anything happens to her.

The next thing I have the opportunity to pick will be my credentials. It may take forever to recover it if anything happens to it.
I may be able to start life allover with my credentials with me. So, I will immediately go for it. It's just in my wardrobe not far at all.

Most times, my phone is usually always close by. So, I will also hold my phone tight because I have a lot of stuff on my phone that may take a lot of time to recover if anything happens to it.

Off I go to safety! Yes
